Oh yeah Doug well here's what we think of all you rover owners. Just a bunch of well to do smart business people out to have a fun time in a good truck. Take this picture.

The articulation is pretty good on a freelander. Did any of those try the hill? C'mon rovers are very capable (maybe not freelanders) but they are good trucks. Bring some of the gang out to White Mountain. I am sure there are areas the Rover will do better than the H2, which makes for good discussion over beers.

Steve,

Your charge up the hill was truely awesome. If I hear about a video of it I'll do my best to capture it and forward to you!

BTW, here's my run up the same hill on June 7th. My V8 1993 110's long wheelbase helped, and remember I'm running open front & rear diffs! ;-)

http://www.kangol.net/lwb/movies/CIMG1060.AVI

PS: Marsha loved her ride in your rig -- you definitely had the comfort factor down.

PPS: Basically, Defenders, Hummmers, Disco's, Jeeps are all different trucks and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. It's a shame the rivalry gets a little ugly sometimes, and for that I apologize for the Rover community. If I had to run from San Diego to Costa Rica (something I want to do someday) I think I'd pick a diesel 110 over any of 'em -- but that truck is sadly not available in the U.S.

Then there's Carrie (forget her last name), owner of a highly modified D-90 rock crawler that routinely wins big rock competitions in places like Johnson Valley here in CA. These super-agressive Land Rover owners rarely turn out for trip events -- always perferring to invest their time in organized competitions where the modified Jeeps, custom rods and Defenders square off.

But you, my friend, will always remain King of the HILL!! It was a great to have you along Sunday! Hope I can join you on a Hummer expedition one day.

Best,

Doug Walker
Trip Leader

DRTYFN,

Im not in my nightie yet but im heading that way.

I just think it got out of hand thats all. Have you ever been out in the desert and a group of jeeps go by and the two groups snarl at each other? It just seems kinda silly, all it takes is for one guy to wave and the ice is broken and usually everything is cool after that.

Mutual respect and dignity still go a long way in this world. I've said enough so I think Ill shut up now

Scrover, good answer. We pack lots of food, water, (get gas just before we enter the trail and right after we finish too) I've found that my roof rack works best at keeping the trees from scratching my paint on top but I also occasionaly throw my tire up there but have found it screws up my satellite radio reception. So for now, it's just for looks until we hit some more level trails. The spare will continue to bounce around in the back and the cooler will always reside where I can reach it.

quote:
I've already been banned from the LR website having posted nothing at all....

Wow - you were banned from disocweb? That seems a bit harsh to me. Being a newbie, I once asked why a certain thread was locked and was told that it didn't relate to discos. It was in the General section so it was very confusing as to how they decide which ones to lock. In the same section were many topics unrelated to discos.

I've received great assistance and tons of invaluable information from that site. I sure hope this doesn't create such bad vibes that banning becomes the solution.

Respectfully,

Kenny

Scrover said "The disappointment came when he opened his mouth and heckled the crowd like some white trash teenage jeepster.

The truth is, my 9 year old daughter could have dragged that fat ass (the H2s, not Steve's) up the hill, scrapping and banging on any piece of dirt bigger than a mole hill, and she can't see over the dash. Don't kid yourself Steve, it was 100% vehicle, 0% skill - all class, NOT!

Not content with just 'making it', Steve had to delay the departure of the group of 30 trucks (of which he was a guest) further by continuing the arrogant ego-fest even after our trip leader had called for us to get ready to roll. So up he went again and down again like a deranged yo-yo, oh wait, he's going up back-wards - cool.

It's not very often that we see H2s out on the trail or have the opportunity to invite one to join us. This isn't the sort of behavior we expect to see."

That behavior was getting your ass kicked and kicked good!

I don't wheel very often, but I have and will again when I feel like it. But I know an ass whoop'n when I see it, hear it and read it!

Steve, Hummer Steve that is, You ROCK!

Scrover,

I hate it when my posts get picked apart. I really don't want to discuss semantics. Yes I said "tore" no that doesn't mean Steve literally destroyed the trail dumping trash along the way while he discarded his cigarette into the brush and bounced gas out of open gas cans. We are just having fun. Steve is having fun when he talks about it. Please don't take it so seriously and please don't take the words so literally. It's not exciting to say "I gradually went up the dusty incline while stopping only to ensure that I not did not scratch a rock" We are a bunch of guys and gals having fun let's keep it that way.

Steve, we just got back from the OH HH.
I picked up a spare set of 35x12.5-16.5 General MT.
When I put them on I gave the front end 2 turns on the torsion bars.
I noticed a lot of improvement over the AT on the muddy hill climbs and the twisting pits.
I could see the difference in height when we were all parked side by side.
I think this will give a little more articulation too.

See, we can all j-j-just g-g-g-get along.
It's just the uninformed and ignorant that look upon the H2 with disdain and call it a Tahoe. If they'd read the entire article about the frame of the H2 maybe they'd understand why it was configured the way it is. Oh well, we can always explain it to them as we go by and they're stuck.

Welcome Doug. Good to have you on board.
