Question/concern regarding sunroof in the rain.
I drove my 2008 H3 in the rain for the first time today. I noticed that in the back corner (driverside) of the sunroof, there was a few drops of water coming through the seal.
However, there seems to be sometype of spring loaded tray, just below the spot where the drops were coming through, that was catching the drops.
So, based on my observation, I have a few questions:
1. Do I need to be concerned about the few drops coming through?
2. Is the purpose of the spring loaded "tray" to divert away any water that comes through that portion of the sunroof?
3. Where does the water go if it is purposely ending up on the spring loaded "tray"?
Thanks for your time.

Yup.. took mine through a car wash last week and the sunroof leaked. And then I drove away and the plastic panel on the hood came undone and was flapping in the wind like a front spoiler. Hummer of Sac has been good to us though and was all taken care of through warrantee.

Re: Question/concern regarding sunroof in the rain.
Obviously your sunroof should not leak. On a sunny day open your sunroof and look at the two front corners. There is a drain on each side, which can get clogged by debris, like pine needles. Make sure these are unclogged, any water that gets past the sunroof should go through these drains. Also make sure your sunroof is closed all the way. If you still have a problem with leaks, take it to the dealer.
I have had water coming into the cabin from the sunroof a couple of times. The fix was to unclog the sunroof drains.

Re: Question/concern regarding sunroof in the rain.
I haven't had a problem with leaking, that I've noticed. I've wondered what the springy thing was for also. Maybe it works as a wind diversion so air doesn't poor straight onto you while driving?

Re: Question/concern regarding sunroof in the rain.
It was shut all the way. I triple checked. I got this reply on another hummer forum. And, based on my observations, this makes sense. My tray was not overflowing.
"I have an 06 with the sunroof. The sunroof is not sealed to keep out water. The tray is supposed to catch the water, you need to worry when it starts to overflow.
There is a drain in each corner to drain the water. The two front ones go down the A-pillars and drain just behind the front tires. I think the back ones go down the B-pillars.
I occasionaly wipe any accumulated dirt out of the tray to help keep the tubes from clogging. If it's been awhile since it rained last, probubly wouldn't hurt to run some water down the tubes to help clean them out. Also if you lube the tracks yourself watch the overspray. Lubricant with any dirt will clog the tubes in no time.
I've read Hummer wants $600 to clean any clogged tubes. "

Re: Question/concern regarding sunroof in the rain.
My '06 leaked a few drops too, when I first got it. I brought it back to the dealer and they put a new seal around the glass. Seemed to have cleared it up. Now there is also a tray that the glass track sits in that is under the headliner. It diverts any water that does leak in, to the 'A' and 'B' pillars as a gutter/leader system to drain.

Re: Question/concern regarding sunroof in the rain.
my sunroof leaks a bit in the carwash - I have no means to figure out if it leaks in regular rain, because it hardly ever rains here, so I don't care. I'd get the sunroof again, despite somewhat queationable seal quality. It's just a few drops, who cares - but our other vehicles roofs are 100% water seal. H3 is special I guess, well no problem at the end.

Re: Question/concern regarding sunroof in the rain.
I had bought my H3 06 used. I have intermitent problems like that. Except my water is coming through the deiling on the left and right B posts. It literally leaks like a funnel. I havent had water leak around the sunroof yet though.

Re: Question/concern regarding sunroof in the rain.
I just had mine at the dealer last Wednesday because it was leaking like mad with the rains in So Cal. Turns out the dam tree I park under every day dropped so much debris that made its way into the infamous drainage holes. They had to unclog the holes and remove headliner to dry out all the water. Tustin Hummer was nice enough to do it the same day so myselft and my family could go on our Thanksgiving getaway to Mammoth Mountain.
