Default Questions about programmer-

I purchased the Predator Diablosport Intune, I must say I am not impressed so far and need some help on fine tuning it. I currently have 37" tires and 4:56 gears. It rides beautifully as it is (without the Predator Intune) and gets decent mileage on the freeway ,the only problem is a bit gutless when towing my toy hauler (a heavy one at that). I installed the Intune and set it up for the preprogramed 87 octane, while it felt it had a bit more torque and power, the shifting was very rough and highway mileage sucked really bad. So I removed the intune and put it back to stock. Now I am thinking I should either return it, try it out with 91 octane or keep it to use only while towing up steep grades.


I know a lot of you guys here use Predator, what do you guys suggest and what am I doing wrong?

Don't even waste your time with the canned tune. Get a hold of Diablew (find him on google) and have him do a custom tune for you.

Go one step further and put a Corvette servo in your tranny.

I have done both and my mileage increased about 2 mpg in all conditions. It's an entirely different truck.

I tried a programmer for my deuce to help with trailer towing---turns out it ran worlds better on the stock tune with the Premium fuel that was recommended to run with the tune. I boxed up the programmer and returned it.
Once you realize that your truck will do just ok towing and don't expect the world out of it, you'll be better off. Just take it slow and easy, and don't throttle down going thru the mountains and it will do fine. The biggest thing I learned about towing in mountains or very hilly areas was that it tends to run hot, so you have to slow down and keep an eye on all the temps---increased engine temp will also bring up your tranny temp. If you're going to be doing a lot of trailer towing and are concerned with heat, a huge aftermarket tranny cooler is a must.

I'm not a big fan of programmers. You mess with one variable and it affects others. Manufacturers spends hundreds of thosands fine tuning performance and you're not going to improve performance without consequences - just ask my old Corvette C4 engine about what a programmer did to it.
I run in the mountains several times a year visiting my son in Telluride, CO and a transmission oil cooler, as has been said here many times, is a MUST for your temperatures and performance.
