Re: MOAB RUN 2K7
while i am not a newb to off roading, i am a newb to MOAB....
i think it is a good idea to break up into smaller groups..
my concern is that each group has someone that know the trail at least a little.
a small group of people that have never seen the trail is slower then a long line of people with someone leading that know the trial
you know what i mean?

When we first started wheeling Moab, we were in the same boat. None of us knew the trails, but many had experience wheeling. We made it just fine. The trails in Moab are well marked. And, with the aid of the trails books and a GPS, navigation is pretty simple. (except for the one time coming off poison spider. )
I don't think anyone is talking about not doing any trails together (vets and noobs). It's just that some trails are going to be serious challenges for those who've been there a lot. That is not a place for noobs (to wheeling, or to the unique Moab terrain) on their first trip.

...what he said! I will be available for one day at $200/ hour to guide on Hell's while the others run Pritchett.
I think it's important for the newbs to moab (but not newbs to 4wheeling) also to help the new newbs on these trails. I don't think that there will be a harder trail where a vet will not be along. There are enough of us that it won't be an issue.
For the new newbs: don't expect to run a harder trail without damage. It's always possible. Don't step up to a harder trail that you don't feel comfortable on. It will make you and others have a bad day. There is no preassure! Everyone wants the group to be safe and have fun. If your not sure on the trail, talk to one of the vets as to what to expect.
But above all, don't back out on the trip due to these bada$$ trails that wreck your vehicle. There are pleanty of scenic trails and easier trails that don't require ruining your truck. Hell's Revenge as an example can be a hard trail for some due to the pucker factor of being there your first time or attempting the optional obstacles, but i believe those with common knowledge of 4 wheeling and keeping saftey in mind can be one of the most exciting trails in Moab without damage. I have yet not to run this trail every time i have been threre. I love it!

Very true. Hell's is a nice drive if you skip all the obstacles.
As far as pressure goes to run an obstacle, there isn't any. I haven't been to the top of Lion's Back, and it's not because we conveniently break something right before going, it's because I'm skeeerrred.... Frankly, I don't think anyone's ever even mentioned it. Very cool.

I figure we can ziptie all the kids to Adam's roof rack while we all go into town for a few sodas.

Maybe we can lock them all in a room with your dogs and if there is any problems you dogs can pull a Lasie and so and get one of us. Your dogs are smart, right?

One dog would pee on them and the other lab would jump up on the bed and sleep. Other than that, they would guard the room.
