One thing no was has brought up is everyone trying to go back at once and probally no gas when you get there. My son lives in Galveston and is with us right now in Dallas and he says to beat the rush he needs to leave right after Rita comes ashore and slows a little. He drives an H2 also. I told him make sure you take an extra 20 gallons of gas. Any sugestons??????????

It's an emotional thing to do but he wasn't well prepared before it got here, he needs to hang out with you guys and let things get sorted out first. You can watch the news and get a feel for how things are going and when it seems better leave in the middle of the night.
Unless it's an emergency my suggestion is to wait to feel things out. It might save a lot of frustration and undue effort.

They actually had a TX official - I think it might have been Dewhurst - comment on the looting thing on Fox. They asked him if law enforcement was prepared to handle what they saw in NO...he told them he wasn't concerned, Texans are licensed to carry weapons and it's legal to use deadly force to defend life or property. There won't BE a looting problem.
Gotta love this state!

After Charlie last year the drive from Orlando to Tampa was over 8 hours and usually it only takes me 1.5-2 hours. What I do to carry around gas when there is a hurricane is mount my receiver hitch rack and line my gas cans on it. If he is going to be in traffic, I would suggest also buying a chain and a lock so nobody can steal them while stopped. I would also mount it to the front receiver so he can keep a better eye on it. If you/he doesn't already have the gas cans, it could be hard to find them. The best anyone could find, if any at all, around here last year during the storms were 2 gallon cans. I stocked up on the 5 gallon cans earlier this year. Good luck to your son.

I agree with Paragon, wait it out and see if it is even worth trying to head back before a few days have passed.
