Problem I found with that discussion is not whether or not DRLs are worth it, it was the idea that $3.00 in fuel per year was a logical reason to have them disabled on a Hummer.

Not a fan of DRLs, but I do see the value in selectable/switchable DRLs for certain driving conditions. I agee with above regarding the discussion about DRLs and saving $3.00 in fuel/year, not worth discussing.

No gage, but trans temp can be read via a Tech 2. I really doubt any overheating is due to the trans fluid. Could be wrong, but I doubt it. You already have a small cooler. In fact, I believe it is the trans cooler lines that get in the way of the oil filter removal.
