Re: Pics on my Farm and New Pond (w/HUMMER)
Alan were You able to get into any of the state or federal money for creation of fish, bird, and other critter habit. Great looking place, really nice!!! I do not know how much it has changed but, being a life long farmer now retired I helped my dad get some reimburesment from matching money and Feds and he had just 4 or 5 acres. Then the state stocked it for him for free. You do have to build them to state or fed grades and specs etc. Sometime messing with them is not worth it but, in this case i would advise anyone to check it out. This is a project they are normally excited to get behind.
Doing this of course though will make anyone a leaf licking tree hugger. LOL just kidding but, it is good for anyones land as it will draw birds and deer as well as other critters.
Maybe some racoons so You can get you enough to make a mess and have a coon BQ for your local Hummer owners. They make a real good treat and a fun experience for anyone that has not ever tried that meat. You parboil them after cleaning etc. to remove some of the gamie taste and after roughly 2/3 cooked You get Your smoker and big grills of any kind as long as they will hold large turkey foil pan with deep sides. Fill the tray with one layer of meat and buy BQ sauce by gallons as You want to fill each pan till you cover the meat and continue to add as needed. cover with foil if not in a smoker to help hold mostier in and cook till pink is just gone so meat will be tender. You can boil the meat a little less and sometimes it can make meat even more tender. It is wild game so not like taking ribs off grill or smoker, they will not fall off the bone. I have had an employee when farming that i would let all the guys working on the farm have a 4th of July BQ for families and he would not tell but, he could cook them to where they fall of the bone. He told Me he soaked the meat in butter milk before or maybe it was after boiling the meat. Can't remember but, I would furnish all that was needed and it was one day a year that would shut down the planters or even the irrigation wells to celebrate Our Nations birth.
Even though they had other holidays these families, many of them fathers and sons working on the land wanted to have this date off even if it meant trading off another holiday. Sorry, just brought back memories of some very fine people and a day I was proud to share with them. Plain but, proud of the best country in the world by their words and mine. Most poorly educated but, knew even though they would not have much room to grow financially they also knew they could not do better anywhere else in the world and said so many times during those days every year.
Basic American people who work hard for their families living and have no real big dreams except survive and as has been my experience are the most patriotic blue collar people I have really been around.
Gillet, Arkansas has a Coon BQ festival each year to raise money for the high school football team. It draws I think over a thousand now and all the state politicians show up. Bill Clinton would show up every year but, was I would estimate 50/50 liked or disliked by farmers. I at least did not like him as in AR we heard all the sneaking around stuff and other stuff. I could never understand why Our nation would elect a man that ran a state that does not have the population of most large cities that mayors ran. When I traveled and people saw my AR plate on my ride they would always ask about Clinton. They were stunned when most Arkansans well 50/50 did not like him and if i remember he could not carry his own state well at least on the second run for Pres. Sorry to my good friends in MS they are the only reason AR was not last in school numbers and many other areas. We had horrible school problems while Hillary was here yet it was her 1st Lady focus. Health care was horrible as we did not get health ins. to help the medically uninsurable and low income coverage. So there was another 1st Lady focus that was not taken care of in over 12 years of public service to AR which is 12 as gov. and more as state attorney general. Buds let Me make a promise, this country will regret it more than any other Pres. if Hillary is elected. she will not be as bad in first running as pres. but, if she has the congress controlled by Democrats especially in second term it will be horrible for this country. She made it no secret that she leaned to the socialist side of the table. Sshe has allot more money now than then so maybe it has been tempered. She will play Robin Hood and even if it cost her own party the Pres. office for 16 years she will take from those who have and give to those she deems are have nots.
Well so much for my Martha Stewart recipes and political predection if the wrong person is elected. Hillary could be the one Pres. that i would watch and see if i need to move to France, OOOHHH what a horrible thought to have to move there. Well I could maybe work on a farm as i read a few weeks ago the average French farmer witrh 500 acres worked just 40 hours a week as they all normally shut down for the weekend period. The gov. pays so much support that it shocked me and i understood why they did not worry as they get it almost if they do not make a crop at all. Far worse than anyone would imagine American farmers getting. Well that is a whole nother big mess. I have done enough dmage for the day.
Oh well this always gets me on a tiraid. SORRY!!
Just thought I would mention info on pond building help if it has not been ruined by now by your state or Feds. Contact your state Soil Conservation Service or called by similar name as they will oversee the thing and do paperwork for state and feds. You most likely knew already to check. Many people do not know that You do not have to be a farmer and it can be a small peice of land. Each state has stuff they want you to meet. The Fed rules are usually same state to state. Some states put in less than others.

Thanks for the info! I did try to go through the govenment, but they no longer offer that stuff over here. One agent told me that they built too many lakes when the word got out, so now they leave it up to the owner.
Sounds like some interesting BBQ!! I'll probably stick with Turkey or Bass from our land, but you never know! If a coon becomes bothersome, he might just find himself on the grill!!!
Oh, and as for the tree huggers, I bet my pond creates more habitat, sanctuary, etc, than all of their talk. Imagine that, a Hummer owner who creates wildlife habitat and signs away develoment rights on the property for 15 years! I'd love to hear what their comeback would be.
Country folk, hunters, farmers, and land owners are the true conservationists. They live and know wilderness, unlike a bunch of city dwelling "environmentalists".
Would this be an offset to my "carbon footprint" ! What a bunch of Al Gore horse sh!t!!....

Re: Pics on my Farm and New Pond (w/HUMMER)
Alan that is a good thought about carbon point trade off. We all need to keep that in mind.
Alan You would be amazed at how many discussions that as a farmer I got into trying to get people to understand that I cared for the land more than the tree huggers. They could not even comprehend that I was very concerned with soil erosion and water contamination. I told they my little girls ran around in the dirt and my home was in the middle of where all the spraying was done. I told them that the land was in my blood it was my life. I had to take care of it so it would last generations so others could make a living from the land. It was just impossible it seemed for them to wrap their minds around the fact that I cared for the land and did more to protect the land than they did and I had done more to preserve it.
Well anyway You have it right. It is a shame the Gov. stopped a program that was really beneficial to the whole USA and really accomplished something.
Sorry You did not get to receive support.

Re: Pics on my Farm and New Pond (w/HUMMER)
I think most of us care more about the environment than the leaf lickers do. Let's face it, most leaf lickers live in the city and wouldnt know an oak tree from a cherry tree.
Funny story....last year we went to the Shriner's Circus that came to the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. Of course all the leaf lickers were protesting. Funny thing my wife pointed out...they had on leather coats and shoes...isnt that a double standard?....last time i checked leather comes from the hide of a cow right? Its typical liberal double standard BS.
Get this....now some a$$ in PA has legislation on the floor to make LAWFUL gun owners pay $10 PER GUN PER YEAR in addition to a whole litany of things such as finger printing etc.....how is that going to stop crime...do they really feel that the crooks are going to register their firearms?
OK rant done

I've got about 3 miles of trails fit for hummers! I've been stuck out there twice. One hill is pretty rough when dry and un climbable if even slightly wet. There are some good v-ditches and I have a nice mud hole from a spring......More to come next time I have a dozer out there.

At trailduty.com Its the gobi stealth bed rack. It makes the truck 10 times more useful since the bed is pretty worthless!
