FWIW- If you drive in snow/ ice (on the road) MT tires bring teh suck! AT tires are way better for that. A tire that's in bewtween an MT and an AT, IMO, would be to go with the procomp extreme AT. They have deeper lugs and are dirrectional. We have them on our H3 and they kick butt in the snow/ ice, they're good in the mud (not as good as a MT tire, but close) but better than my AT's have been in the past. They don't seem to clog up with mud as much as the BFG AT's did. I'm not sure if that's due to wider spacing between lugs or the dirrectional pattern or both. I have a set of these on the way for the H2 in a 37 13.50 17. most of my driving is on the road. For the off roading I do (a few times a year), I'll throw my MT's back on if they are week long trips or something. Also if you have air susp. go with a 12.50 wide tire so you don't air down and mess up that arm back there.
keep in mind that if you don't stay on top of front end alignment, balance, and rotation, the MT tires will show more wear quicker than an AT and will also ride with vibration. I have this with my MT's for the last 3,000 miles. the damn steering wheel and shifter shake pretty bad. They are getting better though.
Here's a link to their website. http://www.procomptires.com/xtatapps.htm

Re: 37" BFG Mall Terrains
I like the way they drive on the hwy better than stock. A slight hum, but only enough that you might realize you are driving a 7,000 lb military vehicle. So far, they have worn well and stayed round. It's surprising how the additional 1.25" (radial diff - diameter diff is 2.5") makes you seem to sit up higher (that along with 1.5" t-bar crank). My limited snow experience was also very good. Sidewalls are incredibly thick, and there is good tread a few iniches down the side. I had several instances where, on steep wet rock, others on the trail slid down at the end of the decent, whereas mine didn't slip. Maybe just luck or something else, but I'm hapy enough with them that I wouldn't trade them in for any other tire. AND ... they are reasonably priced.

Re: 37" BFG Ball Terrains
Ok Marinehawk, you almost have me convinced on the Coopers. Do you have air on your truck? Are yours 12.50's or 13.50's? And, is there a noticable diffreance in road noise from the stock Mall Terrains?
My Mall terrains are hurting at the moment. I bet they are at lest 3/4" shorter than when new.

Ball Terrains. Bwaaahhaaaahaaaaaa
Alan, I was going to ask you: What shape are your AT's in? If they aren't bad: keep the AT's for winter and the new MT's for Summer and Wheelin. If that's even a consideration, not sure, but thought I would mention it.

Hey Alan,
Yes you are correct and I've been pleased so far with the Coopers. We don't have much snow/ice here in Fl but they have been great in the rain. On the way back from Tellico we hit heavy rain for quite a while and they were still extremely stable at 75-80 mph.
They ride great, my buddy even commented about the smooth ride. Road noise is more than the AT's but not bad and nothing the radio can't cure.
Lookin' forward to wheelin' again!
Jim

Good Idea. I will definatley hold on to them. They are about 1/2 done I'd say.

Cool! I think I will get the coopers. Thanks again Jim, see you on the trail next time we all get together!

They are labelled as 37" x 12.5"; however, Cooper's specs list their section width as 13.1". I have the air and no problems yet.

Then you probably haven't wheeled hard enough. With those meaty tires, at 13" you're gonna snap one of those eventually.
Get ready to order. If your truck is an '03-'04:
- The left sensor is part no. #15187825,
- The right sensor is part no. #15124930
(Thanks to NoMompg for that part number info)

Would wheels with an inch less backspacing solve that concern?

i would pose the same question.
Hawk, have you taken any blows to the suspension parts that get exposed from low back spacing rims (mine are, i think, 1.5 or 2" less than stock)?
i'm kind of worried about that - the stuff that was tucked into the wheel is now out a bit...

I would think so. I know it significantly decrease the rubbing (4.5 space) like on Adam's rig.

I still have stock rims. I was considering going with and inch less (4.5" I think) to eliminate the mild rubbing up front. I don't know if my lack of air failure is luck, that the tires aren't big enough, or perhaps because I generally have the air suspension engaged when wheeling-perhaps moving the tires out of the way. But I haven't even looked at the air thingy yet. I just know it's working after some fairly decent wheeling. The photo above shows the tire pretty much at its highest arc of movement.

You're probably safe in that photo. HOWEVER--------when you get off camber and you rest the more of the weight of the vehicle on your tire while it's pressed, that's when it'll happen. In that photo you're on flat ground. I've seen two broken - and both were when the vehicle was leaning into the wheel, unlike in your pic.

Re: 37" BFG Ball Terrains
i got it.
every time i read about how my truck is about to shoot a half-shaft into orbit and send tie rods across state lines, i fret for half an hour, and then just forget about it... and the truck keeps going. the underbody protection is toasted, couple cosmetic blemishes, lots of gouges in the frame, but the alignment is still good and there's no hint of anything being damaged.
but for the moment i'm in my half hour of fretting.

Thanks CO. I'll probably proceed with the 4.5" wheels.
