These are 2 different worlds. These pictures were taken on the other side of the country.

Another shot....
It starts to get fun here. The rocks are real loose and covered with dust.
I just installed the winch. Wasn't worried about the H2 getting stuck. I had originally planned to do this trip with 3 Jeeps but they cancelled out at the last moment.

We got out to walk up the last little ways....
We had to leave the H2 at about 15,000 ft. I could have gone up a little further but the road (Ha! Ha!) quit on us and since we were out of AAA's service area we decided not to take any chances.
At this point we were still looking for some snow.
More to come.........

Re: Back up on the mountain.
Those pictures are absolutely beautiful. I especially love the old convent picture and the mountains. Your truck is gorgeous as well.

Looks like Clint Eastwood should be riding across the photo there....

Funny, the last time we went up there it was foggy. My Son put a waypoint in the GPS and named it Mars.
Imagine being here with fog and about 20' visibility. It really is another world up there.
More pics to come.

This is our destination for today's trip......
This is a small stone building called the Albergue. It is at 15,500'.
Here, the serious climbers come to rest and to get used to the the altitude prior to ascending to the summit.
This is as far up as we go since we have no guide or specialized equipment to continue.
Like Clint Eastwood always says: "A man has got to know his limitations." ;-)

Another shot of the cabin.
The cabin is about 12' X 24'.
It has places inside to lay out sleeping bags and a small table.
I would guess that it would sleep 12-15 people.
Here I am trying to read an engraved plaque on one of the many crosses that has been erected in memory of the several Jeeps that have broke down trying to make it to this point.
Edit: OK, you caught me. I made the Jeep part up. The crosses are really in memory of the climbers which have not made it down alive. It does make you stop and think though.

Another reminder......
At the bottom of this picture you can see a piece of aircraft wreckage that we found up there. That, along with the crosses in the background were more reminders that we weren't exactly swimming in the kiddy pool if you catch my drift. You can die up here if you are not careful.

Back up on the mountain.
It was a beautiful day up there. Nice and clear. But, we figured we better go back down the mountain before dark fell.
