Re: Classified VIN #
Hey F5 - any word on the legality in PA? I can't imagine it would be illegal as long as law enforcement could read it if need be. I know it can not be physically altered in any way. I wasn't sure which source you used to determine the legality of covering it....
Regardless, I don't think it should be publicly viewable. Too much can happen as others have pointed out. But alas, those pesky dash items can slide so easily.... even for us "00's"

Just my experience with COPS in many states. Again, if not sure, a business card can be nonchalantly tossed up on the dash...
I do know in TN, the Sheriff's I knew well, who had nice vehicles, did the same thing.

Re: Classified VIN #
Cool look on the VIN, but is it just the angle of the shot, or does your green machine need a t-bar crank? Those 35's take up a lot of the front wells...

Green Lantern
What's that other thing on your dash?
What did you have to do to get the Mardi Gras Beads?

I think, it's a reflection of a parking light pole.
Those are not beads, It's my CB cable.

Still on stock height, no torsion adjustment. I like the assault look, plus I don't have any rubbing issue/problem.

Re: Classified VIN #
I like the mod! I've had my vin covered up since day one but I just used plain cardboard, the one that you have has more class.
The key code thing is a lot easier than some people think. I can obtain key codes to just about any vehicle, over the telephone, simply by providing a vin. I do it every day. However, codes for GM vehicles consistently prove to be the hardest key codes to get, GM regularly reviews and enforces their key code security policy like no other manufacturer. That being said I regularly bypass their requirement for ID and proof of ownership by using a little known loophole and a form that anyone can download off the internet for free, it works every time, no questions asked.
When it comes to vehicle theft, ignition cylinders like the MRD found in the H3 are pretty good but they're not all they're cracked up to be. Likewise, transponder key systems that are found in most other new vehicles would only slow me down for about 30 seconds if I really wanted to take your car.
My advice is to cover vins on any vehicle that you want to keep and worry about the law enforcement officials only if you get pulled over.

Re: Classified VIN #
I've never checked my H3, but isn't the VIN also stamped into the side of the frame? (usually right below the front doors) It was on my previous vehicles...

Yes, but at least people can't see it when the door is closed.

Re: Classified VIN #
Actually, it is in about ten locations throughout the vehicle, part of the Federal law to help prevent car thefts.

So, you're pretty much screwed if someone wants your VIN, business card or not?

Re: Classified VIN #
I kind of like that last photo myself
Hey question on doing this - when you slid your covering material in there, was there a piece of foam in the way? Did you remove it or bypass it with the material? If the latter, did you go between it and the glass or between it and the dash? I wasn't sure if it had adhesive on either side or not.
Thanks!
