Would someone please help me in explaining the installation/removal of the SMA swing-away tire carrier? I have been failing at my attempts to do so for someone, and could use some assistance.

Adam,

What kind of problem are you having? Getting it to align properly?

I'm not having the trouble. I've installed and removed the thing a couple of times myself. I sold it to someone else.

Thanks, Seth. Check out the S&B thread. I actually made a similar suggestion.

By Seth:
quote:
tell them they want 4 part#11518590 bolts for $3.65 each (or find the same bolt at a hardware store for $1.00).

Ooh, part numbers..., bad. BTW, if you needed new bolts, wouldn't common sense tell you to go to the store and get new ones.

Adam, I hope you did not have to ship that thing. Must have been a chunk of change.

Could you imagine all of the trouble you would have to go through trying to get that thing packaged up and then shipped? It's not like UPS has a box set up for something like that, nevermind, it's probably too heavy to go UPS.

And if you had to pay someone to box it up, plus ship it, it would definitely be a chunk of bills.

Adam,

You failed to mention an intregal part of this situation:

When someone asks, "is all hardware included," you simply tell the truth. Missing lugs, bolts, and license plate wire is not something I was anticipating. I installed the same carrier on my 04' with no problems, so the installation is not a problem in the least.

Again, for $100.00 more, I could have purchased a new one. Live and learn I guess...

No, the tire carrier is also used, and that is evident. $100.00 more would have bought an absolutely brand new one (with all new parts). Not to mention the time and hassles of locating new parts. I feel that makes absolute sense.

-J

So you paid $500 for a used tire carrier? Things still aren't making any sense...

And you would still have to pay shipping on that and install it yourself, but hey, who am I to comment.
