AND.... if you actually measure a set of 35's, they are really only 33" tall.
Very few manufacturers make their tires the height designated. Super swampers, etc.. are really what they say they are.
Having said that... I think 39's will be too tall. I don't think they'll fit and I think even with gears, they'll suck.
Just for the record....
4.56 with 38's is the equivalent of factory 33's with 4.10's.

Re: what can go wrong??
well just for the "record" the setup has been doing great. a little deflation of the tires and this thing is billygoating through hills. i have the stock 4:10s right now but am going to 4:88s this weekend. i have a set of 38 KM2's that are almost identical in size to the 39s. the 39s are just wider. like it was just said many tire makers claim one size but it really is another. hopefully when i get back from the sandbox i will make a video to show all the doubters what IFS can do with 39s. i had a 76 scout II with straight axles and am not a fan of IFS, but this hummer is proving itself. nothing better than wheeling through some nasty buisness behind a jeep who dosent think the h2 can take.

Re: what can go wrong??
Oh, I'm sure it will work but I meant for real driving, it will SUCK.
Wait until you drive on the highway driving to maintain 65-70mph. There is no way you'll ever be able to use cruise control again and the tranny will take a beating cause you will be going in and out of overdrive CONSTANTLY.
Driving around town and off-roading, I'm sure it'll work fine.... the gas mileage in town will suck a bit and though it will go through the mud, you'll find you'll do much better with the 88's.
If you get a chance, post some pics, (someone commented but I didn't see them) I'd like to see how it looks with 40's, I'll bet it looks bad ass.
