Personnaly i consider ANY car/truck 4wd if the transfercase contains a 4-lo. This is the defination that 4-wheel and off-road uses in their 4x4 of the year award, seems to make sense.
73' GMC long bed 4x4 1/2ton 350cid SM456/205 trans. Man i miss that truck.
97' Dodge Ram 4x4 short bed 360cid

85' Toyota 4x4 built for rock duty. The best of the bunch!!

Yeah, I guess everything is relative. My grandfather paid just over 2k for a brand new '55 Chevy, but then again, he was only making a little over a dollar an hour.
Thanks for the info.
Mine was a Cheyenne. It had the aluminum trim around the back of the cab and luxury options such as heat and a headliner, lol.
I lucked out buying it though. Turns out it had 3.73 gears, when the standard gears were 3.07 (yuck!). It also had the part time 205 case rather than the more common full time 203. From reading the four wheeler mags, I've since learned that the TH350/NP205 combo is ultra rare in the early trucks. Apparently most of the 205's came with 4 speeds, and most of the autos came with 203's.

So what was your first 4-wheel Drive (add your second, third, etc as you see fit).
Mine - '65 Jeep which was also my first vehicle, followed by a 75 Ramcharger, then a 83 CJ, then a '92 Suburban, and now the H2. Plus and minuses all the way around but all were and have been fun, fun, fun...

Mike...
The 73 was a K10 Custom Delux 4X4 , Longbed, 350, 4speed. My dad paid $3495 for it. It was the one advertised as the bait. It looked pretty plain in amoungst the Silverados, but had everything dad was looking for. If I remember correctly Silverado 4X4s were about $5K in 73.
I do remember I was only making $5/hr as a diesel mechanic in 1973, so all things considered.....

My first was an 82 Subaru GL wagon! Rocking hand me down from my parants!
Then I was off to street cars and bikes!
My winter rigs came up to being a 87 Wrangler, 87 S-10, and then went on to cars again, only to move onto a 00 Jetta GLX, then a 02 GMC Z-71, 03 Tacome Double cab, and now the H2!

Well can't sleep so did some research which will be all I do on this topic. The H2 is not 4WD it is not AWD it is Full-Time 4WD. There is a difference.
The h2 is considered Full time 4 wheel drive by a unique defining definition.
All Wheel Drive
Only mode is 4WD. Full time.
No 2WD available.
No 4WD "low" available.
Full Time 4WD requires:
A transfer case
A center differential
Two drive shafts
Two axle differentials
Two powered axles
I lernt somthin
