Easy, I fired and hired but you never knew what I had cause It wasn't your biz, Your right there but don't you think saying hay We can't becasue of cash flow, the weather, a bad decession on my part. You just say no, becasue your the man. I know becasue I don't want to be the man. Man oh man, nice talk, The person I worked for maybe was not a good motavator. I motavated myself to make money, he took and never gave back. That is why he is no longer a HUMMER dealer. So in short, did the dude need to fired? maybe did the man overreact? If he was a good employee making money for the company, yes.

No, no! Please don't' feel bad. I only wish that we had this discussion in person, instead of this forum. I am confident it would have gone on very differently.

This interaction with people like Paragon has taught me how to stay on the esoteric path:

1. One of our most useless weights is to believe in the necessity of conflict.

2. I must work on my anxious craving for approval from others.

3. I need to be aware of involvement with interesting but immature people. "Do not trade your gold for their gravel."

4. Be aware of hostile attitudes in others, then realize they need not influence you any more than "a slashing storm can affect a beam of light!"

5. Inward right action relieves us completely of concern over results in our outward actions.

Thanks James and all here, you are great teachers!

You did the right thing. Someone like that can take down morale in a heartbeat. If you made his life miserable, he could sue you for a hostile environment.

To all you non-business owners, what you see is the perks (rewards) that we, as business owners, are entitled to. What you don’t see is the sleepless nights about making payroll, paying the mortgage, etc. We take the risks, why can’t we have the benefits.

As I told an employee when he complained that he couldn’t pay his bills but I had a fancy car – “If I fail and close, you lose a job. I, on the other hand, lose ALL my perks, benefits, rewards and all my other possessions. House and cars included. I am the person taking all the risks, not you.” Then I used the now famous words – You’re fired!

I pay people to work for me, not be my friend. Everyone is here at my place because they are getting paid to do a job. No one works for free. If they are not happy and do not perform, then they are basically “stealing” a paycheck every week.

It’s funny how different everything looks like from this side of the desk.

I too, own my own businesses. I tend to support James... subversiveness should never be tolerated under any circumstances. That kind of attitude is pervasive and will destroy a business. Joking is one thing, but disrespect and subterfuge will bring down the infrastructure in a heartbeat.

My employees know I'm a very generous boss and always pro events. But they also know I can lose it and cut some ungrateful at the drop of a hat.

James, I wouldn't fire him. Just remind him of how good they have it in comparison to the welfare or unemployment line.

Paragon:

Please don't put words in my mouth. The topic read "pissed off" or something like that. I was only offering a different way to look at this event. There is a way to change your thinking without getting "pissed off", did you know that?

others have rightly expressed their viewpoints, I have too.

If my points and observations would have sounded a bell, then James could have PM me and I would have given him more information that has greatly benefited me in these situations.

The real question is, why has this information made you react the way you have? Sometimes the truth is shocking when one is asleep. Who knows?

I stand by my viewpoints and my suggestions. Sorry!

I would never have fired and have never fired someone who I overheard disrespecting me to others the first time. Doesn't mean I didn't get pissed, just really an invitation to reflect, isn't it?

Definitely a sit down discussion though. Setting boundaries, clear expectations on the behavior...

Firing someone for 'insubordination' IMHO frankly is a cop out for failed leadership.

Course I probably never would have hired that particular us vs. them value set in the first place.

Actually I threw the tree hugger label at myself I think - I just said that my guys would think that I had turned into a raving tree hugging soap dodger if I started using words like esoteric.

And I think that you may be a little more concerned about what we think of you than you are letting on - I quote

"Licking my wounds on the H2 forum"

If you are as unaffected by my Tuesday afternoon ramblings as you claim then where did the wounds come from.

We call this type of reaction "brown nose-ing"

Really, James, I was trying to point you to a esoteric path, and I have failed.

But let me say this. What if you would have treated the situation in a different way? A way in which both you and your (ex)employee could have grown from this event?

You might have fired the only honest person ( at least as perception goes) in your business, who knows now what type employees you have left? Yes men? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>He's had issues with some of his employees.

Besides, what positives can come from an employee mouthing off in a negative manner about there boss? I see nothing but a lowering of morale, discontent and a general lack of respect for the person paying the wages.

Not putting the Hummer first. Putting respect first. As all of us should.

Everyone here is dead on right. It is your business, etc., etc.,.

Now, lets look at it esoterically, for your benefit.

Is the statement true about putting the Hummer first over your business and employees? If you are honestly not doing this, then why the perception that you are?

Rember to most, perception is the reality.

Just reflect on these thoughts, that's all I ask. There is no right or wrong conclusion to this request. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
