Default non monsoon nav install questions

I mounted the GPS antenna directly to the underside of the dash with 3m permanent tape. The btm of the bracket to underside of the dash. I am not sure it is oriented correctly. Does the actual sensor face need to be facing the sky?

I mounted the foot to the underside of the dash so the sensor itself is perpendicular to the sky... follow me?

Second all the navs I have seen scroll the map in SHORT QUICK increments as you drive, there seems to be a great deal of lag time between updates in position, is this normal?

Lastly if I do not have the speed sensor wire running from the factory to the radio harness what would the symptoms be?

The volume deal isnt really an issue, an amp would be nice buit not really a necessity. The thing that is suffering is the onstar volume and the vehicle chime, however the radio has a screen where you can change the vehicle chime from low to high (not perfect but it helps).

My main concern is the orientation of the sensor on the gps bracket.
Also the lag in the map scrolling, basically updating me on my current position.

Thanks for any help

UNO
