total cost of ownership
obviously these beasts can be modded through the roof, but what i mean, or what i am asking, i guess so i can be as informed and i can be, is maint. costs and the like...
tires: of course at 32'' (from the factory) replacing those will be pricey.
oil changes: do you have to get those done at a Hummer dealership? do they rape you? is it a somewhat standard price to pay, or is it like $100+?
brakes: do these use some ungodly type of brake?
feel free to mention or add anything else that is part of "the usuals"
again, obviously, i am not looking at comparring this to a Honda civic, i know i am buying a Hummer....but this is for my wife as a grocery getter basically. hate me if you will, im no enthusiast, but she likes it and wants one and i feel safe putting her and my 2 year old in it.
thanks for any help....again, great site!

The only expenses you'll have for the first 50k will be oil changes (your tires & brakes should last that long). Figure around $35-50 if you have it done at the $tealer.
Tires won't run you more than about $800 for basic stock replacements (if you rotate in the spare, you'll make them last longer), less if you get fairly new takeoffs.
And if you follow the oil life computer, you can go upwards of 10k on an oil change.
So total cost of ownership would be around $200-300 for the first 50k. More after (you get into the service intervals, brakes, tires, etc).

Re: total cost of ownership
What are you driving now? Have you had a 4x4 before? If you not hammering it off road, costs should be similar to other vehicles in the size and type.
Go for the Lux and Adventure Package with Sunroof and if you want more power get an Alpha model
I would stick with the dealer for oil changes or do it yourself. On a 4x4 you have an extra diff and a T-case to include in the maintenance schedlue
The H3 is pretty heavy, so brake lifespan may be different than on lighter car but mainly depends on your driving habits etc. Automatics usulaly go through brakes faster than stick shifts.
The insurance rate isn't bad. I'm not sure what other people are paying.
People have had some issues but all that gets covered under warranty and I think the new warranty is 5yr/100k

Re: total cost of ownership
I do my oil change at the dealer i pay usualy like 80 bucks after everything but along with just the change everytime i get an oil change they also hand wash the exterior, interior and engine, and top off my fluids. I do my oil change every 3000 miles becuase that is whats recommended and i want to make this rig last since my next car will be on me and i dont know when thats gonna happen, probably not till im out of college. Tires and brakes should last you quite a while of course unless you hit a nail, and if you offroad expect a little less life out of tires. Other than that ive been good no issues expect for i had an incorrectly calibrated camber i have no idea what that is but it was covered under warranty. I offroad mine quite a bit a lot of mudding and water stuff since im a Florida guy and i never have any problems with my rig (knock on wood) plus to add in every 6000 miles i do an oil change plus an inspection onn everything else with a tire rotation and that usually costs a bit more on top of the standard oil change not by much though.

Re: total cost of ownership
I get a $25 oil change every 5k or so. Other than that no expenses to speak of. Have had a few nails too which they've just plugged.

Re: total cost of ownership
I did a fabulously famous story on comparisons once. I found it's not true.
