Hi all,
Problem here. Just got my 05 H2 about 2 weeks ago and after a few days I hear this load clunking noise coming from under the hood when the car is in reverse of when I'm traveling at very low speeds. Any idea's what this could be? I'm going to have to take her back to the dealer this week and have them look at it, but it still has me worried.

When it shifts into reverse? Or just driving backwards? Are you wheels straight or turned?

Mostly when I back out of my driveway. As soon as I turn the truck on and put it into "R" it starts. It also does it even if I've been driving for a long time and than put it into "R". Does it when the wheels are straight and turned. It also does it when I drive down a side street by my house. 25 mph of slower I hear it. Any ideas?

Well, I do not have a clear answer for you - and I hope that someone else might.
Personally I am wondering if it is something to do with the tranny or a u-joint. The thing is it is new...so it is pretty wild, and not likly a u-joint. I wonder if it is more of a suspension part, like a torsion bar flexing.
Have you laid on the ground (not under it - because we do not want to run you over) and had another person shift back and forth to see if you can hear it?

HA HA actually I did lay under it with my g/f shifting it. It sounds as if it's coming from right in the engine compartment somewhere. But for the life of me I can't pin point where.

Well, at least you know your g/f really loves you!
I am as lost as you are. The engine compartment sounds less like anything i was thinking of...I am sure some of the others on the forum might know more.
I would totally take it back to the dealer...it might turn out to be something that is major and will have to be swapped out.

Wow just did a search and a lot of people have this problem. But none really ever posted what the problem actually was. I'll be taking mine in this week first chance I get. Hope it isn't anything major. I love this truck.
By the way your right I must keep the g/f happy cause I still have my body. Couldn't imagine 6500+ pounds on top of me. OUCH

Hopefully a reprogram will do it than. As long as it isn't anything big than I'll be fine.
Thanks again.

Took it in today. Easy fix. The exhaust cover was too close to the exhust. Thus causing a clunking sound with vibration. Took them about 10 minutes to fix it and everything is fine now. They said the reason it sounds like it's coming from under the hood was the vibration sound was sending it's self down the shaft.
Glad it wasn't anything major though.
Thanks all
