Default Just had to vent

After listening to the so-called auto expert who blamed a major part of GMs bankruptcy on the move to large SUVs, such as "the Hummer which gets 8 mpg and serves no real purpose other than to impress others." Then there is USA Today this morning that in the Money section says that the Hummer, "not only didn't sell, but also gave it (GM) an environmental black eye. Some of the heftiest H2s barely managed 10 miles per gallon."
First of all , I would never conside a small niche market like the Hummer as one of the main reasons GM failed - it was only part of the big picture and we all know it was marketed terribly. Secondly, if we were to take a pole on this forum, I'll bet 80% of us average 11 mpg or better with our H2s, 8 mpg and barely 10 make it sound worse than it really is. It's so common for the press to lump us up with the H1. Third, I would say that the person saying they serve no real purpose did not see any H2s in the Mississippi Flood disaster, Hurricane Katrina, getting doctors and nurses to the hospital in snow storms, or the Great Noreast Blizzard of 2007. He obviously has never been offroad in an H3 or H2. Fourth, no where in these discussions have I heard how many American jobs the Hummer is responsible for and how arguably the H2 is responsible for more American jobs per vehicle than any car you can buy in the US. Fifth, not a word has been said in the media or by GM in Hummer advertising about the 2009 Flex Fuel H2. When you put synthetic oil in the crank case and run it on E85, it uses no petroleum products at all.....ZERO! Lastly, I fought in the military for this country and our freedoms, and the last time I looked all of us in this country have the right to drive whatever we want without being singled out as giving the environment a black eye. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

Well said, I agree that H2 owners as well as H1 and H3 owners get a bad rap. I never hear mention anything about the Ford Excursion, or Expedition which get equal to or less miles per gallon than my H2. I love my rig and I sure as heck did not buy it to make a statement, however now in hindsight I guess my statement would be, I can drive whatever I choose this is in fact the last time I checked the USA.

You may want to check on a regular basis. Its seems less and less like the USA I know (knew) everyday.

Ypu got it right brother. There better be a republican candidate soon to take this country back or we are in big trouble.
