Towing Capacity

I just purchaced an H3 and my dad was thinking of buying an H1 but he was wondering what the towing capacity on it is. That is something he needs for work and i figured yall were the best people to ask!!! Thanks for your help.

I was wondering this same thing, but that link wouldn't work for me. Does the independent rear suspension make it difficult to to tow a trailer?

I have a 24' trailer I tow my dragster in & I'm considering an H1. Any personal experiences with pulling a similar load?

I tow a 20' Maclander steel deck trailer with a 4200 lb Jeep (and an extra set of sand tires, tools,parts, etc..) on it and have had no problems with it swaying etc. The total loaded weight is around 7200 lbs. I'm not even using a weight dist. hitch or sway control, but I am staying within the recommended tounge weight, and the trailer has brakes on all four wheels.

I've towed it out west as well as to North Carolina (via I-77 through the mountains) and had no problems, but I would switch to a good synthetic trans oil, and don't use overdrive if you by one with the 4L80E trans.

My 2 cents: I can't speak for the new alpha model, but if your idea of towing is going over 60 MPH with a heavy trailer I'd just go get a new F350 and ride in more comfort with a fatter wallet.

I tow it about 45 miles each way to the track. I'm not sure of the weight, but the dragster weighs 1,600 lbs plus the steel contruction of the trailer (aluminum body), tools, pit bike etc. Probably around 6,000lbs.

As far as the F350 comment that was my intention, but if I'm gonna spend $40k why not pick up a '01 or'02 H1 & be happier with my truck.

The H1 should be fine to tow that distance.

I understand, I was going to replace mine with a new F350 (warranty, cheaper parts) this year but just didn't have the heart to go through with it.

45 miles with 6,000lbs. no problem. Mine regularly makes the round trip to the U.P.(upper Michigan) at 400+ miles round trip.

I had a 2003 H2 since new, and I've always been critical of the towing capacity. I purchased a 03 H1 and I have forgot my complaints.
