Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
I'm also researching these to purchase one soon. I don't have the factory XM tuner behind the glovebox so the model I would need connects behind the radio. My only complaint about these is that the factory radio does not change the button labels to the iPod buttons. You have to remember which buttons are now shuffle, forward, back, etc. even though they read out for XM tuning.
Check out eBay also, there are many models on there.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
Yeah that was the only thing I didn't like but I'm sure it doesn't take long to get used to. I would probably keep the setting on so I can change song from the iPod.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
I don't have factory radio anymore but I was trying to hook up an iPod a while back and did some research on this forum. Search for it and you'll find it. All I heard about was the ones that hook up to the XM receiver (which means you can't have XM and iPod at the same time) and there were some glitch that made all the bells and warning lights go crazy every couple minutes. I never did hear of a good kit that worked flawlessly. I ended up going with an FM modulator which sucks balls. Now I have aftermarket stereo with direct iPod connection.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
Well that's not really that big of a deal to not be able to use the xm and iPod at the same time. I understand why that wouldn't work. That would be like playing the radio and a cd at the same time. I don't ever listen to xm anyways. Never have. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger and go with the USA pa15 setup. They sell them at best buy and I happen to have a gift card for there.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
Obviously you wouldn't use both at the exact same time, but that wasn't my point. My point was that warning lights and chimes would go off randomly, I couldn't handle that. Hopefully your kit has this issue resolved, let us know how it turns out.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
Never found one with good reviews so I got a FM modulator (puke) and now I have an aftermarket stereo.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
You never found one with good reviews so you bought something with horrible reviews? Lol fm modulators are probably one of the worst things ever made for music. So you never personally experienced any lights on the dash or anything like you said, with the xm adapter ?

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
Last thing I want to do is get used to the lights and chimes going off so when something really is wrong with my truck I don't notice. I didn't expect high quality with the fm modulator. It was a simple and cheap fix that did not make my dash lights and chimes go crazy and allowed me to listen to my iPod. I mostly only used it for books and podcasts on long trips instead of music. I never experienced the chimes and lights, just read about them on here and decided against it. Good luck, let us know how it works out.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
A person i work with has an 05 with nav and he didn't want to put an aftermarket headunit in. He used a ipod adapter and last i knew really likes it. I'll ask him which one he is using next time i see him but I'm sure someone will chime in before long. I had a blose 6 cd in mine and couldn't wait to change it. Installed a Kenwood w/nav and bluetooth and have been very happy with it.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
When I still had the factory NAV I used the Peripheral iPod interface (PXDPGMT)...now discontinued.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_541PXDP...ce.html?tp=120
I never had any real problem with it...no random light flashes or door chimes; it just worked as advertised. Peripheral changed their name to iSimple; they've got some new interfaces, maybe compare them against the ones you've already found.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
ive thought about swapping out the factory nav, but theres really no reason for me to. the nav works fine, the only thing i wanted was an ipod hookup. have heard any bad personal experiences with these kits. ill have to talk to a few manufacturers and see what they say about them.

Re: Ipod hook up for factory nav
Is it a must for you to have on screen controls?
I have a gm lock pick and it allows reverse cam, and two audio inputs one with video. It charges the iPod/phone while listening.
I don't use the iPod adaptor unless I want to watch a movie. I use the headphone out and plug a RF receiver in the iPod port and that allows me to use a wireless remote to control the music.
Search the forum... I think I did a detailed write up on install

I have the same in my 2008.... isimple works fantastic!!
I had the Nucleus in my 2006, this is the one that occassionally made the chimes go off, it only happened on a very rare occasion. If I had it to do over again I would have went with a Peripheral unit, I have the Peripheral in my Z06 and it performs flawlessly.
