I have the new 2012 Nav Disc!
OK I have the new 2012 Nav Disc and this version even updates the firmware. I think the $200 price is expensive so I made a copy if it gets damaged. If anyone wants a copy to protect theirs I'm selling them for $40 basically I want to recoup my costs. This is for the 2004-2007 factory nav.

Re: I have the new 2012 Nav Disc!
At the risk of sounding like a pessimist, copying the disk may be an issue. The propietary material contained within the disk may be encrypted and the copied disk may not copy or play correctly. This is commonly done by companies to deter duplication of the material.
But I hope that it does work! Good luck!

Yes it works perfect just like the original. Unfortunate we even have to do this as my $99 TomTom has FREE updates for life.

What kind of update does it do to the firmware?

Re: I have the new 2012 Nav Disc!
I am certainly not selling them as an illegal copy but as a duplicate to the expensive original one you buy
As for the firmware I didn't have the older version disc when I bought the truck to compare. On the Chevy & GM forums they say the maps are easier to read and it's faster. It did do the firmware update the first time I used it.

Re: I have the new 2012 Nav Disc!
its one thing to say you're making a backup of the disk for your personal use in case anything happens to the master disk. However to make "backup" disks but sell them to others-that would make it illegal. Just an FYI, I'd keep it under wraps just in case.

Re: I have the new 2012 Nav Disc!
$40 per copy is more than recouping costs! I have the software to burn it as an ISO and was FREE! Discs are cheap. I will give you that it does take a bit if searching on line to get the knowledge on how to do it!
As far as working or not, much of this will depend on the individual reader in the units. MANY of the GM nav units CANNOT handle reading a copied dual layer disk. I made a back up copy of mine about two years ago on high quality discs and many times I would need to eject and reinsert the copy mutliple times for the NAV to recognize it was a map disc. I threw it out.... Glad to hear your works but caution you that it does not mean that it will work for everyone...

What you just admitted was you stole it. I bought (maybe foolishly) the disc from gmnavdisc.com. Lesson learned so yes it would be nice to at least break even. So far I have never had any read issues using Memorex discs.

How did you get that I stole it from my post? My last Nav disc was sent to me FREE by GM as I qualified for 2 free update discs during my ownership. I attempted to make a back up copy of my actual GM disc and results were not acceptable for me to use a back up. I also used Memorex along with a few other brands and none of them would allow the unit to read the disc every time.

X2... this was my experience also! Back up copy I made seemed to work OK and boot up successfully for the first several times (a period of a couple of weeks), but for what ever reason it started working sporadically, and finally quit working all together after that.

When I got my second update for free from GM, I immediately made a copy and saved the original just in case.
I used it for about 2 years and I know this sounds weird but EVERY single time I would get out of town, it wouldn?t find the address I was looking for.
It worked perfect in town but ONLY when I went out of town, it would fuk up. It was stupid, it became a joke, I hated it.
For some reason I decided to try the original disc and it worked perfect. Apparently I was unable to copy it correctly.
I hope this new copy works, it would be great, I?d try it.
Let us know.
