Re: Humvee Upgrade
Honestly, it sounds as if they need an entirely new vehicle.
Quote:
"It's a significant weight increase on the truck - about 1,000 pounds - and it adds about 12 inches each side of the truck of the entire width," said Larry Day, program executive with AM General Defense.
The doors are so heavy, troops may need a mechanical assist device to open and close them and drivers will likely require built-in visual references so they'll know if they can fit the vehicle in narrow spaces.

Re: Humvee Upgrade
the Vee was never made to be turned into a tank. wrong application for the humvee in Iraq. They need a new urban assualt vehicle for that kind of situation.

Re: Humvee Upgrade
12 inches on each side wtf?!?!?!?!?! that would make the width without the mirrors now 110.5 inches thats ridiculous how do you want to drive that, i often refer to the H1 as a tanlike suv but this is really turning it into a tank!

Re: Humvee Upgrade
These things are SWEET!!!! I am a mech in the Marines for about 6 years now. I just went on a class of these bad boys put on by force protection. One of their mechs and teachers was one of my fellow mech in my platoon while in Fallujah in 04. They have enough gizmos and gadgets to make inspector gadget drool. The arm on the side of the vehicle always makes it nice. Plus anyone who has been in the sandbox knows those vehicles get hot when its 140 heat, plus your gear, plus those electronics. These have an AC vent for each passenger. May not seem like much in the civilian world but that was the cat's meow over there. I doubt that they will replace the hummer anytime soon. They just bought a sh*t ton on 7ton trucks from Oshkosh with a million mile powertrain warranty. It would be cheaper to make and install armor kits on the existing ones (which is what they are doing).

Re: Humvee Upgrade
I cant see the site because of a block but i think you guys are talking about the cougar cheetah and buffalo, correct? I see them on the back of 18 wheelers all down interstate 10. In a 3 hour drive i always see at least 5.
