Default Replacement battery ....

I'd like to upgrade the battery in my H3. I've done a little research here and I'm thinking about an optima red top.

Looks like from what I read, only the series 25 fits but the cover can't go on. My question is, is this the size everyone is using and is it ok not to have a battery cover on the battery (I'd assume so but want to make sure).

Anybody have any other battery recommendations, perhaps one that's an exact fit?

I have an Optima Red Top in my H3

Red Top
Part No. SC34U
CA 1000
CCA 80
RC110

I have had it in the H3 without the cover for about 5 months. No worries.
It kind of looks nice seeing the Red Top under the hood. Iv'e had them in my Jeeps with out any cover without any problems.

Thanks for the reply. Does the SC34U fit OK or is some modification required?

It came with an adapter clip that holds the base of the battery down. It replaces the one that fits the stock battery.

The nylon web over the battery was loose on the optima and the cover wont fit because of the location of the + and - terminals. I think the cover can be modified to fit over the Optima by enlarging the holes in the cover. Another project to work on over the holidays

Battery cover is used for insulation from heat; thus the little air pickup tube that is used to cool the interior of the box.
