Anyone familiar with these or done any wheeling with one. My dad bought one about 7 years ago to play around with and it has been sitting for at least 3 years now and rarely got driven before that. He drove by it every day and finally stopped in and asked the owner if he wanted to sell it. Guess you can figure out what the answer was. Thinking about buying it from him and fixing it up. Pretty cool looking truck. It is the half cab version, kind of like a 2 door SUT. I think I was the last to drive it but it ran great then. Front end was a little loose and I am sure there is a fair amount of work needed to get it to true wheeling condition but sounds like a fun project to me. If I get a chance, I might go by where he keeps it and take some photos to post. Any thoughts? Am I getting into a very costly toy?

i used to have one. a little squirley in the front end and didn't feel solid in turns. the elec system passes through some tight spaces and i had to deal with shorts a lot. check ebay or somewhere for parts availability so you know what you're in for.
hope this helps,
gary

Gary,
Thanks for the input. I think it could be a fun toy. I have driven it a few times in the past, just on the street, but it was a little squirley in the front like you said. Figured, what the hell, it is just sitting there anyway.

Sounds cool wannabe, got any pics of it. I figure if I get it I would have a hard time deciding whether to take it or the H3 out wheeling Oh well, life is full of decisions

Well I got by the place my dad keeps the Scout II and took a couple of quick pics. The thing has been sitting for probably 3-4 years but I think it could be a fun project. What do you guys and girls think?

Very cool rubi. I think it would be a lot of fun. I just hope the project wouldn't end up like with my dad, going no place fast. He bought it to fix up and play around in but I think I was the last to drive it. He was going to pay someone to do all of it so maybe that took most of the fun out of it.

304 or 345 in it? I had a 78 with a 304 and a 77 with the 345. Best part was that my dad worked for Harvester at the time. Body parts are crazy to find now. I'll look for some pics of mine. The 78 was completed from the bones up with all new metal, and it turned out really nice with a coat of Ford Medium Metallic Gray. Good luck.

I grew up in a "scout" family .. My dad had one of the first ones on the East cost around 1959 or 1960 .. it was 2 wheel drive with right hand side drive controls. (set up for mail) . I think he owned around 10 of them all together .. In 1975 I was given my first vehicle by my parents it was a 1963, 800 series scout with a 4 banger and lockers front and back, I loved that truck and wheeled the hell out of it. I owned two other scouts after that. they where good for there time but they had lots of issues like poor road manners (rolled two of them), prone to sever rusting, uncomfortable as the 800's where all metal inside except for the seats and the top of the dash. I also owned the "truck" top scout 2 and rolled that as well .. LOL .. I'll scan some old photos and post them when I get a chance

Would love to see the pics of you guys old Scouts. I was actually just talking to my dad about it the other day. Don't think it has been driven in 3 or 4 years now but he just doesn't want to get rid of it. He also has a '59 F100 that he keeps at the same shop. They guy that owns the shop really wants the F100 and they have talked about him fixing up the Scout as a trade. I had it for a couple of weeks several years ago and it was fun to drive. There is some rust but as I recall, it isn't that bad an I believe it has the 304 but not positive. If anything happens with it, I will post about it.

I had a 75 Scout II, (345, 2 bbl, auto) If I remember right it was like 165 horse power but nearly twice the torque). I loved it, it was a great reliable vehicle. During the March Snow storm in 94 there were many days my Jeep CG would not go but the Scout never let me down. I had a 2 inch lift and 33 on it. They can be squirrelly to drive but they take bumps well. The biggest problems with them was rust but there are lots of clubs and fiberglass replacement parts to include entire tubs. I was hit by a F150 at a stop sign and it crumpled the ford and the scout drove away (lots of credit to the tube rear bumper) My kids loved the top off cruising we did in the summer (installed a full roll cage and canvas top. I will see if I can dig some picks up.
