The good ol check engine light came on today and im thinking it may be these two things: My oil percentage is at 26% now and I put new tires on yesterday (smaller)! any ideas? by the way, my mileage is only 32k

Did you dial up onstar? Or do you not subscibe?

I've had 2 check engines lights, Both were a 02 sensor.

Oil life monitor or changing tires won't turn on your ses light, you need to scan it to retrieve codes.

Ooops, had a brain fart. O2 sensor was on my pickup. It was the evap system on the H2. Neither one is a big deal (driving for short periods won't hurt your vehicle).

Figured it out, all it was was the gas cap being loose. it took about 12 hrs for it to go off and about 24 for it to turn on! weird.

If I'm not mistaken when you get a evap code it may very well be just the gas cap.

Mine goes into the shop this morning for it's second evap code.

man, that blows. sorry to hear about that. Is it giving you any other signs besides the light being on?

Perhaps I'm thinking outta my ass again, but ya'll are talking like you can easily see the OBDII/evap codes...?

You guys all have some sort of diagnostic plugin right? There's no way to tell codes just by sitting myself down on the ground looking at the truck.. right?

I've been looking at the AutoTap System but if there's another way to diagnose error codes etc I'd like to know about it How about schematics/howto's on building my own OBDII serial interface?

Thanks for info.

These OBDII readers you mentioned, in that price-range, would only give me error codes?
If so I might as well spend the $200 - would plug nicely into the ICE

It does need a PC or PDA, but I've already got a box running Windows Embedded as my 'entertainment' system so hopefully I'll be able to find some SDKs for the software and integrate it for 'always on' operation.
