Uh fellas...I figured out how to secure the tire on the back of the SMA rack.

On the round piece that the tire sits on with the 4 bolts that enter the spare's rim, there is a round hole in the top of the circle. This is for a nice hefty lock to go through.

Problem solved. Of course with the tire cover it's never noticable.

But of course anyone who really wants that tire will come along with some bolt cutters and just clip it off. Thank god I don't live in a high crime city!

So maybe that will help some of you with that issue. Hubby looked at me while we were putting the tire on as I shrieked it's purpose, and said "Boy you are a smart one!"

A better way is to buy locking lugnuts. When you buy a set of four wheellocks, you can call the company and order a fifth wheellock keyed just like the other four. Then you just use the fifth to bolt the spare onto the tire carrier. Of course, this doesn't solve the problem of someone just taking the whole tire carrier itself but it's better than nothing. I think I paid 35.00 for the set of four locks and about 8.00 for an extra lock.
