Borla improves gas mileage.
No bull****!! I bought the catback Borla system for my 05 h2 for a better sound. I did not only get a great deep sound but also went from 10.7mpg to 13.8mpg. Highly recommend the borla system, it was easily installed by me in less than 2 hours with conventional tools.

Re: Borla improves gas mileage.
No way a cat-back picked up 3.1 mpg unless you suddenly started driving downhill all the time or you also fixed dragging brakes while you were installing the cat-back.

Re: Borla improves gas mileage.
I would say , but that is not nice. Only way you would get that improvement is if your stock muffler was heavily blocked.

Re: Borla improves gas mileage.
Hey Yeti, what you are experiencing is correct. Loss of back pressure will typically cause loss of low-end torque.
Here is what I did to get some of it back. I switched over to the corsa touring exhaust which has more back pressure. Not as loud but gives me some of my low end back.
I also found that the addition of my airaid intake caused some of it too. I then put on the granatelli MAF and got some more low end back and better throttle response in lower throttle positions.
It's still does not have as much on the low end as stock, but much better than with crappy aftermarket exhaust and stock MAF in place.
ECM programmers will not help any on lwoer throttle positions as they are designed for top end performance gains. I was told they do not touch lower thottle positions so as to not affect stock gas mileage in negative way.
