My H3 had factory XM. I removed the XM receiver, added a Sirius to Kenwood receiver and SoundGate adapter. After this was hooked up I no longer had my OnStar, not to mention the Sirius didn't work. When I switch to the auxillary settings on the stock headunit, it says "Sirius", but stays on channel 0 -- I cannot tune it to any other settings. Anybody know?
Thanks

There is some sort of adapter that is supposed to be used if you swap out the stock head unit. I'm sure someone will chime in with a manufacturers name or wiring diagram.

When you say you removed the XM receiver are you talking about the head unit of the XM tuner itself? Mine did not come with XM so not sure what it looks like but there is a box behind the glove box that is for OnStar I believe. This is where that roof antenna is connected. If you removed this, that would probably explain why OnStar doesn't work. What do the status lights say on the mirror? If the status lights are what they should be them it is most likely the adapter harness that Rick mentioned.

I am still using the factory headunit. I pulled the XM box behind the glove compartment, and put my Sirius box there. (This may be my problem, maybe I should have left this in place??)
I then attached the antenna to the Sirius box. I used the cable that came with the sirius box to attach to the Soundgate adapter. I then attached the Soundgate adapter to the headunit with the Soundgate harness. I had to remove a cable from the headunit to plug the Soundgate harness in. I attached the Soundgate power connections.
That leaves 2 loose cables. The first is one I removed from the back of the headunit to plug the Soundgate harness in. The second is an extra that was on the Soundgate harness.

What do the status lights say on the mirror. I am guessing it is the box you removed but since mine did not come with XM I am not sure. Do you have any pics of the box or the current connections in the back of the head unit?

I am at work right now (working hard!!), so no pics. I tried removing the connection from the soundgate adapter to the back of the headunit, and replacing the original cable in the headunit. This restored my OnStar. Although now, the soundgate adapter is not hooked up at all.
The cable I am referring to is the smaller of the 2 "pin" type plugs on the back of the head unit.

I am going to put my XM receiver back in,make sure it works, and start over acting as if the XM receiver is not even there...
Thanks.

Probably the best course of action at this point. Take some pics later as you go through the steps and that will help others to possible catch the problem if it continues.

Make sure that you used the new 'y' harness that came with the Soundgate KenGM. The male end of the harness plugs into the radio, one of the female ends is for the oem 12 pin, and the other female end is for the new 12 pin from the adaptor. The Sirius tuner won't do squat until you fully activate it.

Reinstalled, and OnStar works. Sirius does not. I cannot tune to channel 148. I activated but the auxillary channels only say "Sirius". I cannot change to any channel.
At one point it said "Acquiring", but in an hour never progressed beyond there.
I will try and have the Sirius people resend the activation tomorrow... but I am not holding my breath.
I talked to Soundgate nd made sure install was correct...

Did you use the existing XM antenna or a new Sirius antenna?

Existing xm antenna will work fine--have done several just like that.

So....
Still nothing. Spoke with a Soundgate rep and a Sirius rep. Both seem to think my Sirius receiver is bad. The Soundgate guy said if it was the adapter that was bad I would not see "Sirius" or "Acquiring" on the display as it is the adapter that allows the details through.
I will try and find a new receiver tomorrow and give it a shot.

Both. At first I used the existing XM, and then used the Sirius when I "re" did it.

I purchased a new Sirius receiver and tried it. Same story. I see "Sirius" or "Acquiring, but cannot tune to anything.
Talked to Soundgate again. We walked through the installation process, and they said the adapter must be defective.
So I am RMAing it, and hopefully sometime in 2006 I'll get a new one and be able to proclaim a success.
What a pain in the A$$.
