Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
It depends mainly on how heavy your foot is, but '03 to '08s are pretty similar when it comes to mpG. The big difference is having to run premium gas in the '08. I'm looking forward to a road test of the '09 with the E85 engine.

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
Your really gonna get a lot of, "If Gas mileage is a concern, The H2 is not for you." from this site. And that is a correct statement. 10 MPG - 12 MPG is not enough to cry over. I have an 01 Z71 that gets 12. So what is truly the diff? I would gestimate that with age the 03 will get a little less than a new one, but not enough to really be concerned. I may be wrong but you would figure tweaks here and there, along with aging on the air/fuel delivery/exhaust systems may restrict mileage a tad. I do not even look at gas prices any more. Too depressing. But Those middle easterners are not raining on my parade and keeping me from gettiing one. You HEAR THAT OSAMA? Screw you and your OIL PRICES. Oh, BTW, Go F yourself Hurricane IKE!

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
2008 H2's DO NOT require using 91 Octane in them. The recommended gasoline for 2008 is still 87 Octane (Regular Unleaded). Uping the octane is drivers preference.

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
I had an '05 SUT and recently purchased an '08. the difference is a little better. I transfered over the rims and tires so they exactly the same in that way.
'05 averaged about 12.5-13 mpg
'08 averaging about 14-14.5 mpg

That is better. I just put new tires on an 05 z71 suburban, (265's-265's) and no S i went from 14.5-16.2 MPG. (Computer said 15.9) but hand calculated 16.2. But an H2 getting 14 is nice. You shove it you Green bastards. My bumper sticker will say, H2...The Earth's worst Nightmare!
These Libs think THe H2 is solely responsible for the earth imploding. How about the millions of you smoking thos damn clove's or cigs, or other crap. That can't be good can it?

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
I have to agree that mileage should not be a consideration if you're buying an H2. I've gotten as low as 8 and as high as 13 mpg and averaged 11.3 mpg over five years and 76,000 miles of owning two H2s.

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
I am getting about 11.2 around town. Slightly better than my 06. I do have a heavier foot in the 08 since it sounds so damn nice when you get on it. My dad has an 08 also and lives in a rural area and gets upwards of 14 on his.
I will have to pull my manual but I could have sworn that it said hi octane was recommended. I run hi octane in my 08 since it simply runs alot better. Running regular it was sluggish and always hunting for gears. Hi test makes it run like a champ!

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
I've run 87, 89, and 91 octane in my 08 and did notice perfomance differences with 87 but between 89 and 91 no big difference. Gas mileage had been right around 13 and up to 14 if doing a lot of 60mph driving out in rural areas.

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
With regards to increasing the octane level on the H2, I agree you will always get a better ride uping the octane. But that is with any vehicle, whether its a H2 or a Ford Escort. With respect to recommended octane, it is what the manufacturer specifies as an octane that will not damage the engine over the life of the vehicle.
I also will pull out the owners manual and double check my eyesight.
Interesting topic of discussion, maybe I will have to experiment with high octane as well.

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
I stand corrected. According the the owners manual, 91 is what is recommended, but it does say that you can use 87 octane. Which is different then what the Service manual says, which just specifies 87 octane.
Very interesting.

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
I pulled the owners manual out too, and 91 octane is "the recommended fuel" for the '08 H2. I've run regular twice and noted that it downshifts more on hills and doesn't idle as smoothly.

Now that you say that, mine doesnt have a rough idle anymore now that I use 91 fuel. It idled like a high lift cam was in it when I used regular fuel.

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
same here...rough idle and hesitation under wot...with 91 no problems...my escalade is the same way premium only but it states it on the gas filler where in the h2 it doesnt say anything...why is it the escalade is 403 hp and the h2 is 393 hp...what did they do different..intake or exhaust?...i know its only 10 hp but just wondering if someone knew...

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
I have a 2007 & 2008 H2.......and to be honest, I am not impressed with the 08's fuel economy at all. I could be wrong, but I dont think something is right on my engine on the 08, it seems so WEAK to have 393hp. I can take the 07 and go up hills without downshifting, and the 08 has to downshift on pretty much every hill when it has more horse and more torque. When I first got my 08, I did hit 19 mpg with it one time, but now, I cant seem to get it over 14mpg. I am gonna take it to the dealer and let them check it out. I really dont see any differences between the 6.0 and 6.2 in fuel economy cause with my 6.0 I have gotten as much as 18mpg with it.
Most will say its impossible, but as long as you keep it around 55---57mph on the interstate with the cruise on, it will do it.

Dont forget since the 08 has the 6 speed transmission it is going to shift more than the 07 that doesnt have the 6 speed tranny.

Re: gas mph 05 vs 08
I've done my last three fillups(each 25 gallons or more) with 89 octane on my '08 and have found it to be better at idle and under WOT than the 87 octane and not much difference from using 91 octane. Mileage has been almost identical to the 91 octane, averaging around 12.0 with more than average highway driving.
