I was at the dealer today I thought they forgot to reset oil life. They tell me when the reset it it doesnt go to 0 it still list miles on truck.I thought it would reset to 0 so you can keep a eye on miles without that window sticker.
Im changing the oil every 3000 to 3500 miles anyway so ill never get a oil change warning.I just want to make sure there right they seamed to be unsure?

I would say 5000 miles is good.

It resets the PCM, not the mileage. The system, if reset, will calculate the mileage for the next oil change correctly and notify you when it is required. But the miles on the odo are either the total (which by law cannot be reset), or the trip, which you can reset at any time.

Depending on how you drive, you most likely won't see it for a while. Based on my experience with the I5 over the past year and a half, the oil life warning won't activate until >10k. The monitoring systems reports percentage oil life remaining when you read the PCM with a scan tool (unlike the H2 which has a "DIC" readout). I change my oil at 5k intervals and the "oil life monitor" consistently reads between 48-52 percent oil life remaining when I reset it each time, YMMV.

Has anybody actually seen their "Oil Change" message come on in an H3? And if so at what mileage did it come on?
I've been changing oil at 5000 miles (probably an overkill), so I have never seen it myself.

Recommendation:
At 5K change your oil and send it off for an oil analysis. I have done this on my previous GM vehicles, and found the oil life from the lab, is very close to the oil life percentage left per the PCM.
