How low can you go....
On a tank of fuel. Traveling through the hills of western NY (primarily I-86) from Watkins Glen to outside Erie PA, I was able to hit 365.40 miles before the LOW FUEL light came on. Speeds were between 70-75, but it was quite hilly.
Fuel mileage was 17.78 mpg (20.546 gallons to fill).
The next leg from Erie to Rochester Hills gave me 18.6 MPG, but I was traveling on flat land, through Ohio (and it seemed like there were Ohio state troopers every other mile) so speed were between 65 and 70, then back up to 80 in MI .
(I actually have a photo of the low fuel and mileage, but it appears for some reason, I cannot link to Comcast anymore.)

Re: How low can you go....
17.8 is great! In Denver with 35's, we get around 11 with ours.
My H2 gets better mpg! I avg. 14 to 15mpg in that one.

Re: How low can you go....
That's great! I get 16 to 17 on long highway trips. Usually get around 15 around town. Lots of cops out this weekend around here.

Re: How low can you go....
City is around 14-15, but around here it is drive one mile, stop, drive another mile, stop. Whoever controls the lighting in MI is an imbecile.

Re: How low can you go....
OK, i'll preface this with a few details from my last vehicle: Infiniti QX4 (bascially a Pathfinder which I am sure you all knew). Bought it used with about 26.5K miles on it. At about 80K I put new tires on it because winter was coming and I thought 80K on a set of tires was a little unusual and better to be safe then sorry. I think the stock tires are rated for 50K.
At about 88K I had the front disc brakes done (new pads and rotors) for the first time! 88K on brakes? Even if they were done before I purchaes the truck, that it still about 60K on the brakes. I inquired about the back drums. Dealer said they were fine. They'd adjust them. Last oil change at 109K miles, I asked about rear brakes. "Nope. They're fine." So with that said, I am not too hard on my vehicles I guess.
H3 now is about 1 month old, did a few road trips into the Adirondacks. Have about 2100 miles on her now. My second tank got a reported 20 mph, pretty much straight highway miles. And the average of all the fills ups is 19MPG. So, that said, I have reached the 400mile odom mark on 1 tank, but usually try to fill up on a Sunday when the local gas station has 5 cent off a gallon sale. My driving usually stays under 75mph on the high way. So I am pretty happy with the truck!

Re: How low can you go....
Had my H3 for 14 months/23K miles. 14-15mpg city/suburban and 16-17mpg fast freeway (70-85mph). Highest mileage was 18mpg once.

Re: How low can you go....
I really have began to track my milage as city, highway and long trip. Around town I usually get around 13. Highway I average about 17. Long trips here I cruise for 4 hours at 70-80 MPH I can get almost 20.

Re: How low can you go....
By far the single most effective mod to improve mpg was to increase tire pressure. I now increase to 48psf on long highway trips (from regular 42 in city), and get maybe 1mpg better, without changing my driving style (pedal to the metal ).

So, on a hot day, running the x-ways, you are hitting approx. 52 psi in your tires? What is the max pressure labeled on the tire?

I just filled up the other day at 352 miles and it was just a bit over 20 gallons at 17.65 mpg. And yes the low fuel light was on.

Re: How low can you go....
I hit 395 miles the other day and probably could have gone further....but I chickened out. Turns out I put in 21.6 gallons at that fill.
Does the H3 have a 22 or 23 gallon tank?
oh yea, I have 26K miles on it adn the mileage definetly got better after about 8000 miles and continues to improve.

Re: How low can you go....
Check the old posts about MPG. There is a charactor there who claims over 20MPH Average.
I think its all downhill though...

Re: How low can you go....
I don't have a 3, but traveling to Moab in the black truck the fuel light came on somewhere in never-neverland Kansas (Damn KS). I couldn't find a gas station out there at all. Then the "Mileage To Go" meter stopped giving me a range to empty and just said "Low".
Holy crap!!! In the middle of freaking nowhere without a jerrycan!
I was on the phone with Adam and sweating bullets!
FINALLY, a station! I filled up 29.5 gallons in a 32 gallon tank getting under 12mpg! Figuring the last 1.5-2 gallons are unusable, well, I was pretty close to a problem.
BTW, that truck used premium fuel at over $3 a gallon at the time! 4,200 miles Buddy... 4,200 miles...
