Remove/Replace H3 door handles
I recently purchased SMA chrome billet door handle replacements for my 2007 H3. The local Hummer dealership is charging me $140/hr (5 hour job) to remove old handles and install the new ones.
Has anyone removed/replaced door handles themselves? How easy or hard is it? Any instructions available?
New to the forum. So thanks for the help!!

Re: Remove/Replace H3 door handles
I bought the same handles. They are more time consuming to install then the factory chrome handles. The factory handles you just snap out the old and snap in the new. But the SMA handles need pins installed. To install the pins you have to remove the glass from the doors. It took me about 3 hours to install them and I'm a mechanic. But they do look great! Mine came with instructions! Didn't yours?

Re: Remove/Replace H3 door handles
Mines did come with 2 pages of instructions, but they are not legible. Both text and pictures are smeared. Trying to get reprints from SMA, but no luck. Thanks for your reply.

SMA got bought out buy another company. I'll look around and see if I still have them. I could install them for you. I live in Clovis which is about three hours from San Jose. I grew up in San Jose!

Re: Remove/Replace H3 door handles
Thanks for looking into finding the instructions for me. I really appreciate it. Out of curiousity, how much would you charge to install them for me?

Re: Remove/Replace H3 door handles
Okay, I was able to install one of the SMA door handles on the back door. It took a while, but I got it done and it looks/works great. I tried doing the side doors, but was way too complicated. Anyone knows how to disconnect the electricals connected to the door switches? I couldn't figure it out. Thanks!

Re: Remove/Replace H3 door handles
There is a little tab that you press on the plug. Then just jiggle and pull. On the doors you have to remove the glass. On the front it's just two bolts but you need to slide the window to the position thats lets you get to both bolts. Remove the rubber wipper from the window frame and lift it out. On the rear doors you also need to remove the small quarter glass. As I remember I had to pull the seal around the windows out partially and i believe there was another bolt in the door jam someware. Then I just set the quarter glass on the roof with the rest of the seal still attached to the door. Then it's just like the install on the rear door.

Re: Remove/Replace H3 door handles
Special thanks to 'Waynesoffroad'!! I followed your instructions on how to replaced the door handles for the front and back doors, and was able to do it myself. The SMA billet chrome door handles look much better than the ones GM sells. It took a while, but it was well worth it. Saved lots of money that the dealership would have charged me if they did it. Thanks again!!
