Should I try and find a rebuilt tranny or one that was removed from a wrecked H2 and just swap trannys....or should I pay the rebuild cost?
I am mechanically inclined but am not sure what all goes into swapping a tranny. Really doesn't seem too hard but I am not sure. Is it something I could do myself?

Hummer, like nothing else
The shop said is was a real SOB to put the new one in, plus the H2 computer needed to be hooked up to some machine to 'accept' the new tranny / codes, etc.
Yeah I was worried I'd run into issues midway the swap and then be screwed. So I def will not do the install myself then. Guess I'll just have to hunt for a cheap tranny shop that does good work.

I'd caution about AAMCO, I've had one rebuilt there and it did not shift right when cold, and I could not get them to look into it, and not long ago I was with a guy who pulled a AAMCO rebuilt tranny apart because they wouldnt look at it again after he had had some problems, he found parts marked with the name of a local junkyard..
My 10 cents on AAMCO
