I've got a left rear door with the courtesy light burnt out.

Well, I've pushed and prodded, poked and pried, and that darn red/white lens just does not snap off to expose the bulb behind it. At least I couldn't figure it out.

So, what's the secret?
Don't tell me I have to remove the whole inside door panel to replace a burnt out bulb.

If so, how could they design this so poorly?

Well, since I said
quote:
Don't tell me I have to remove the whole inside door panel to replace a burnt out bulb.

I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised that nobody responded, if that is indeed the case.

Or else it could be

that nobody has experienced a burnt out door lamp, or

no one has attempted to replace one, or

no one cares to enlighten, or

no one is reading this.[/list]
So, let me change that to:
If I have to remove the door panel to replace the bulb, please tell me that, so I can go into the corner and sulk.

there is nothing in the service manual that says how this is done

I looked all through the service manual and can't find where it says anything about how that might come out. I did see a parts explosion view that suggests the lens comes out and that there are no screws or anything involved. My guess would be that it probably pops out with use of a screwdriver, but that is simply a guess. Sorry.

You may have to go to the corner and sulk. I have looked in my manual also and see nothing on it.

I would pull the panel partially and see what is up behind it. If it turns out to be able to be removed from the front, we will all know for the future.

I have replaces my door buckets and popping the panel is not hard.

Let me know if you have a better idea.

Call the service tech and ask. My curiosity is high on this.

They pop out from the front as one of mine kept popping out after I bought it and the had to replace the door panel as the hole was to big. I would have to check but I THINK the pop out from the back edge as the bulb is located at the opposite end. Look to see which end is brighter and it pops out from the other end.

Got it!
You guys finally encouraged me to pry a bit more on the red/white lens cover, and it finally popped out of the door panel.

The two "nubs" that hold onto the door panel are located on the top and bottom of the lens cover, just about where the red meets the white.

So, after getting it out, the bulb is a simple #194 bulb.
All is good now. Thanks again!
