H2 and 40's ?
if i want to goto a 40" tire would i have to goto a 8" lift? like this one?
or can i get away with the fabtech 6" lift?
or is there just no room for 40's?

You definitely can get away with the 6" lift, how wide are you going with the 40's. I run 38x15.5 on stock suspension and get a little rubbing in full turn, not anything going down the road, and we had some massive flooding back in July and all roads were (some still are) rough as hell and I never rubbed on them. Some people here thought they wouldn't fit or would tear my chit up, but they were mistaken. I'm debating on a lift though, but I do not know how bad it will effect the center of gravity, I've rolled a bull dozer and a skidder over and do not want to add the hummer to the list |

I think width GREATLY matters here. I am running a 38x15.50 with a 20x12 inch wide wheel and it barely rubs at full lock (on flat ground) on the inner fender liner but it does rub. I am running the 6" Fabtech.

It's because there are more intelligent people here with more experience who don't simply drive their trucks down straight roads.
Sorry, but when the stock 35" tire rubs on a good portion of the trucks, 37x12.5s rub on all stock trucks. We know for a fact that a 38x15.5 rubs like hell. Even after it rained. 
Just because it will fit in there doesn't mean it will "run" the tire.

unless you do rock crawling it won't tear your chit up, mine run just fine, even offroad, I have 4000 miles on them(less than 200 in a city). So like I said earlier 38x15.5 fit and run just fine on a stock hummer, I don't assume I know.

I agree with philD, something in less width than 15.5 would be better, probably wouldn't rub at all in full turn, and wouldn't come close to rubbing in the rear, unless you do rock crawling, then your wheels will get fuked up |

With the 6" and 40's you're going to mangle your wheel wells. Period. Those of us with 38's already do it. Unless you're not going to wheel the truck....

thats the point i do want to go rock crawling, what is the bigest size / lift size combo i can put on there to get maximum clearance and still get maximum artulication ? |

I am with Phil on the tire width. I won't go over 13.5" on tire width as it is havok on the Ol' steering components - even on pavement...

Ken,
I can't speak for yours but I've had my lift on for a year and nothing rubs. Obviously I've got your setup but when I installed my lift, I did crank the torsion bars up about an inch and a half to level the truck out.
The suspension has been in some wierd predicaments and has yet to rub... at least on mine.

I have the same setup as PhilD, 6" lift with 38x15.50x18's. They rub depending on how hard core you get. But as you can see everyone has there own opinion.
As I was scrolling through all these posts, I was seeing who the true hard core drivers were!
