Mud Guard Question?

I just took delivery of my new H3. I was thinking of getting the mud guards and the dealer wants 134 installed. I can get them for 75 uninstalled from a 3rd party. Does anyone know how hard they are to install? I have never really done work on a SUV before, any help would be appreciated. BTW this is a great site and has helped me alot in buying the H3.

Dealer charged $160 installed in Silicon Valley (high rent district) for the 4 flaps.

yup, my dealer also wanted in the neighborhood of 175 for the flaps.(installed) added to the price of the Hummer! She was hell bent on gettin me to get them and said i'd be back in a day wanting to add them. I told her i got some(better ones)off ebay for 50bucks (i really did) and she looked like someone ran over her puppy. I think the sales people have a lot riding on their customers purchasing the extras.

what a joke, I can't beleive they could ask for that money with a straight face. PS, you own an offroad vehicle now, invest in a good set of tools. you will need them eventually.

I agree, I want to install them, just don't know how to do it. Do you have to drill holes or is it just as simple as you say, remove 8 screws and put them back on with the flaps? Any help on what is required to install them would be appreciated.

Yes. You'll need to drill a few holes and you'll also use a couple of the existing screws. It's pretty darn simple. The front flaps most likely will be easier to get at since you can just turn the wheels to gain access to the wheelwell.

no install experience here. from looking at the pics in the previous thread, there looks to be four-five screws attaching it to the vehicle.

This photo should give you an idea of where the bolts are that you use as well as the location of the screws.

These are the Husky front flaps, not the OEM Hummer flaps.

I installed the front. The instruction sheet is very straight forward. Essentially, you turn the wheel all the way to one side to take off one of the existing screws, place the flap in place, put the same screw back on, then drill either two or three holes if memory serves me correct, and then screw the fastener through. Install time for the front flaps about 10-15 minutes.

While I only did the front flaps, if you do the rear, you will need to jack up each side and take the rear tire off, unless you have a drill with a 90 degree attachement in order to drill the holes because your drill will not fit between the tire and the wheel well.

While it's been about 2 months since I installed mine, and my directions and memory might be off a tad, it is a very simple project. If you are comfortable changing your own oil, you should be comfortable doing this.

I paid about $45 dollars for the front set of original hummer parts, and I think the full set runs about $80.

Drill a couple of holes, turn a couple of screws. YOUR DONE!
I only used a couple of the mounting screws so it would be easier to take them off for wheeling. I bought mine from Lynch Hummer. I paid about $75.00 w/freight.

yes very easy! save the money, do it yourself. i put mine on in less than an hour, GM Hummer oem....$76 ebay done. no more muddy, snowy & dirty door handles, great investment little money.

Very easy to install. I only went with the front ones myself, $35 and 10 minutes of my time and they are on. Put them on this past Tuesday so don't have a lot of experience with them at this point. So far I think they help a lot. Like JP, I only used the factory bolt that was there and the top two screws you had to drill holes for. This way the will come on and off in just a could of minutes if needbe.

Purchased the oversize HUSKY for both H-3's, took longer to gather the tools to do the job then the actual install time.

1st H-3 $60.00 for all 4 including shipping, 2nd H-3 they gave me a 10% discount.

Great product, installs easy and DIDN'T have to take off the wheel...
