Default massive clunk/knock noise

this is pissing me off, got a clunk in going forward or back wards at 5 mph and applying the brakes, its loud and you can feel it in the floorboard and it shifts the whole car with quite a audioable knock you can really feel it in the seat also !. dealer so far has replaced , both rear leaf springs, both the front and rear drive shafts and now with permission of gm the whole complete rear end unit....got a call yesterday from the service manager ,after they installed the rear end the problem is still there, dealer told me they are going to open a case Friday morning(tomorrow) and gm is having a engineer come out next week to figure out what is going on , my problems,

1/ its been 3 weeks , yea i got a loaner but its not mine hate the color too
2/ how many thousand of dollars have they thrown on it with no luck
3/ how long can they legally keep my hummer with out fixing it ???

and no i don't abuse it or massive off road it , the torsion arms were not adjusted,
its a 06 with 46k on her

wonder if they are going to give me a exchange vehicle for mine
thanks .. i have to vent over this

Man! Sorry for your frustration. It drives me nuts that there are no real mechanics anymore. My dad taught me how to actually find problems and fix them. These days it seems all a mechanic can do is plug it into a computer. If that can't tell him what is wrong, then it just goes to random parts replacement. I honestly think they have a peg board in the back with part numbers all over it, and they throw darts at it to figure out what to try next.

Will it do it if you power brake it? That is hold the brakes on hard while in gear and give it some gas? Maybe hold some gas on it and shift it from drive to reverse and back. If it will then you could have someone look at moter and tranny mounts, frame crossmembers and things like that while you do it.

Could also be an internal issue in the tranny or T-case?

I think the Lemon Law applies to every state...3 times in the shop for the same problem and the dealer and or GM has to buy it back or offer you another deal.

I Googled lemon law in Ohio ...and this is what I got..try googling your self..

Also take the test..

got a call from the dealer Friday . they told me they want there rental back and to pick mine up . asked if it was fixed they said no the engineers wont be out till after the first of the year , the technician thinks he knows what it is but they want the engineers to confirm this, the told me its safe to drive , but its annoying as hell to me ......

I'm starting to get pisses its been in the shop 2 times for this first time 30 days didn't ever get it off the lot and it was still there and now 2 weeks later I'm getting stroked , think when i pick it up tomorrow i am going to raise hell with them as well as the dealership owner as i feel this is total bull**** ....

think its time to call the lawyer ......

I had the identical problem at 55K on my H3. Seems that H3's have a way of busting their motor mounts. Mine was the right motor mount. It's pretty common for this to happen the guys at hummer explained to me

its not in the motor nor the tranny mounts. the engineers have the entire torsion , front end out on the ground scratching there heads.........

its a actual shifting of the suspension ........

now i am pissed............ going to the lawyer tomorrow and filing a lemon law suit.. and gm wonders why there going broke.........

have seen some info somewere, cant remember where about a bracket that holds the steering rack to the chassis coming loose.
apparently even if you tighten it still loosens after a while and makes a clunking noise up front.
may be thats were your problem is!

I think you're talking about body mounts. They just make a noise, not break.

I had this same noise / issue and confirmed that it was the front diff bracket. I obtained the part number from my local Hummer dealer (50 miles away) and ordered the part from my local Chevy dealer ($75.00). Once it came in (2-days) had it changed by a friend of mine who owns an automitive shop. The entire fix cost me $291.00 and guess what? No more noise!! My H3 is back up to 100%.

ps - My front diff had no issues and no damage which was a good thing because my H3 has 74K miles and is still going strong.

sorry for bringing up an old thread but finally just saw it now after a new one on the topic was created...im pasting what i wrote in the other topic on here for ease so please if anyone can help let me know

Ive had two H3's now one 2007 H3 and now a 2010 H3 Alpha....both have done it for their entire lifespan so far. Ive taken it (both) to the dealership to try to imitate the sound because they said they cant fix it unless they hear it to know what it is before they attempt and since it didnt repeat at the dealer they cant do it. One thing i did notice though is a jump in RPM it seems as if the RPM's stay low and then once that clunking sound is done they jump up then switch gears. The problem is exactly as described in this thread and sounds the same. So any idea what it could it besides whats listed in the other forum? or could the RPM jump just be a result of the engine mount being loose and the engine shifting?
