Living in Tucson I haven't had the opertunity. Is it as stable as other trucks in it's class. How do the ABS breaks and stablebility program work. Is it as good as a Cherokee?

I live in MI so I get to ride that stuff a lot, and its amazing. Its heavy so it feels as if it sticks to the roads. Stability track is solid, abs can be a bit touchy. Overall handles incredibly well.
Why do you inquire since you live in AZ??

Ice is ice, and as such has virtually zero friction. Most vehicles stop like poop on it.
On the other hand my H3 has seen plenty of snow and ice and overall does well, very well. The stability control system works well and the ABS works well. Just remember that just because you can "go" doesn't mean that you can stop. Caution is key.

No vehicle is great on ice, unless you can have studs or chains. I've always been partial to the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S since the center tread design has indentations and cupped out areas that act like suction cups on ice. For years, this was the tire all Zambonis in the NHL used and I noticed AT/Ss are on a lot of police and rescue SUVs in the Yukon.
They do not make an exact size for the H3 so you will have to upsize or downsize slightly.

I had the ABS kick in last week on a patch of ice for the first time. It did a fine job.

Round bout a month ago we had a mini ice storm. I passed everything on the road and was able to stop just fine. At times I thought it was too good, I got into some parking lots to "play" and with the stability control I needed a soild patch of ice just to do some doughnuts. Bottom Line: I think on ice the HUMMER handles better then most.

My H3 does just fine up here in the coldest, frozen, most miserable, city in the great white north, Fairbanks Alaska. I will add that not only does it hold the road impressively, but it still feels flexible at 50 below zero. For anyone that's driven at 50 below knows that tires get flat on the bottom, and the suspension pretty much goes bye bye. Feels like you are driving a rock. The H3 feels great and handles the cold quite well (oh, except for the cold-related computer messages (check TPM, tire pressure, doors, mirror thermometer quits at 40 below, etc.) Other than that, to answer your question, a most impressive winter vehicle.

Lots of things to consider... driver's experience in those conditions, with that vehicle, which tires your running, type of ice, temp outside, anything on the ice, etc...
Don't run cruise control when it is icy. You will need to be able to coast if possible. Simply tapping the breaks out of reflex to disengage the cruise control may bcause you to lose control. That goess for just about any vehicle.
BGF T/A's are a good tire for all around - they are not very good on ice though. There are others which will easily out preform them in this area.

The ICY INTERSTATES in South Florida don't seem to effect it at all...
