Stock rock rails. Any good?
I was just wondering how the stock rock rails hold up. Are they any good at all? Just curious.

I've hit mine a few times. slammed down on a rock once and they held up with no dents. so from my perspective they are very sturdy... now i know guys who have put dents in theirs but after serious offroading. but naturally you hit almost anything really hard and it's going to bend or dent

Re: Stock rock rails. Any good?
Cool, then they are actually functional and not just for looks. That is what I wanted to know. Thanks.

Re: Stock rock rails. Any good?
Very Functional! That's one thing that surprised me with my old H3, it didn't come with rocker panel protection like the H2 does. My H2 rails have some nicks and smashed spots, but every scar is a pleasant reminder to me of having fun on the trail. What really surprises me is the people that get out on a trail with their step rails on and despite repeated words from others, they refuse to take the 15 minutes it takes to unbolt them!

Re: Stock rock rails. Any good?
I would say the stock ones are pretty good. However there is room for improvement. Mine are bent up if you look at them closer. When you use them you will scratch the hell out off them.
There is room for improvement with them. I actually offset mine out another 1 1/2" from the body of the truck to keep rocks and trees further away from the body of the truck. I also wish they made them out of a little bith thicker wall tubing. I have some slight flat spots in my rails from pushing up agains rocks in really tough spots.
When I get done wheeling I just hit the scratched up areas with a wire wheel, wipe them down with solvent and spray them with bedliner in a can so they stay looking better than new.

I know. I have not had mine off yet, but I can tell that it would only take a few minutes to do so.

Any pictures of how you did that? Sounds like a good idea.

That is exactly what I have in mind down the road.

Re: Stock rock rails. Any good?
HumminNBoatin', I like your mod there. What about those steps you had in the link you posted? I just saw some on another rig today, and wondered about them. I like that they are high enough to be out of the way, though they would clearly be a problem in the two pictures you just posted here! Do they come off easily? They looked like they might be a good compromise between me wanting the ground clearance, and my wife and kids wanting to be able to get in the truck.
I ask because there is a chance I could trade my chrome nerf bars for a set of those.

Re: Stock rock rails. Any good?
Those are the limited edition steps. The come off really easy if you do the mod I did. I take them off when going off-road and I know its going get a little interesting. I really like them because they really improve the ground clearance over the running boards and u can do most light to moderate off-roading with them on the truck.

That sounds perfect! Two more questions:
1. Would I be able to get them off of the other rig without loosening the sliders? I did some research last night, and it appears the LE ones came with different rocker panels with cutouts? The truck that has them does not have cutouts on the rockers.
2. The sliders are the same, right? They will just bolt onto my sliders?
I really appreciate the help!
