Default Factory hard tonneau cover (SUT)

I was just wondering how difficult it is to "pop" this thing off.

It doesn't "POP" off. Its a Friggan biatch to get off. My advise is to either do with or do without!

6 bolts. Remove the 3 hex head bolts at the base of the shock on the left side, then just loosen the 3 on the right. The whole lid disconnects. Takes all of 5 minutes. Just did it yesterday. Doing it this way leaves the rails in place and you don't lose the alignment. Then just set the lid back on and retighten.

clever, but you have to be aware of the rails as you use the bed. we had someone do this and was loading cinder blocks, kinked the rail (bent at about 90 degrees) and went without the cover for quite awhile till we could locate one rail for him. but this will work.

Great call on the tonneau cover removal! I'll give it a shot, haven't taken mine off since I bought the friggan thing. Can't wait to have the OPEN cabin again!

I tried this yesterday. Took all of 10 minutes total to remove and put back on! Great tip!

No worries. I have taken it off and on a couple times over the last couple weeks since I have been moving. Right now waiting to get internet back up and running but that won't be until the 24th. Having to use the computers at the local library to do anything. OCEANIC TIME WARNER CABLE SUCKS.

I just tried this and it works GREAT. All you need is an allen wrench and a ratchet for the underside. I removed the 3 on the drivers side, loosened the 3 on the passengers side and it pulled right off the passenger side. It removes the entire cover, even the ledge that touches the rear wall/window.

It is so nice being able to "use" the back bed now. 2 folding chairs fit perfectly.

I would imagine it will only be a 5-10 minute job to reinstall it. This method doesnt mess with the rails at all so you are not messing with the hard part.

I remember reading this post before I got my SUT and many thanks to GLBLWARMR.

Tools: #4 Metric Allen Wrench, 11mm Long Socket and rachet, 11mm open end wrench.

I had a few struggles in the beginning. My bolts were a locked up and required the Allen wrench to bend a little.

As others have stated but in more detail:
The bracket the bolts to do not have holes but rather slots that are open toward the inside, this is why you only have to remove the driver side bolts or actually just the washer and lock nut. I removed the two rear bolts and nut since I didn't want to lose them. I was unable to remove the front bolt, the hatch does not allow enough clearance. By moving the driver side this will allow the passenger side to slide out when you lift the driver side up.

Drivers Side:
Removed the rear two bolts completly. I had to leave the front bolt in since the hatch would not allow me to pull it out. I just removed the nut and washer.
Passenger Side:
There is very little clearance underneath so I just used the deep socket and held it with my hands. Just loosen the three bolts 1/2 turn with the allen wrench.

Removal of Cover:
Lift Driver side of hatch up, pull complete hatch about 8" toward the rear (to clear the side pillars). Move hatch towards drivers side until passenger side clears. Be careful not to let the passenger side fall into the bed. The hatch is ackward but one person can manage it.

My rubber stripping pealed up so I will have to re-adhere when I reinstall the hatch.

I also will buy new bolts since the HEX head was a little torn up and since I was missing two washers I suspect the top had been off.

I removed the hatch to load a 50" plasma TV but can see myself doing this as needed. It is a very easy process.
