DIC 4WD Service
I received the DIC 4WD Service Warning (11,600 miles) this morning when I pulled into the office parking lot. I looked through the H3 past postings with no luck; however, the H2 postings had a similar thread suggesting that removal of the T-case fuse for at least three minutes and then reinsertion followed by ignition powering on and off 5 times will reset the computer. It seems that this is related to an encoder glitch. In that case, it appears the computer loses track of where the 4WD system shifting motor position is and throws the code, allegedly due to a lack of 4WD use (it has been a couple of months in my case)
Has anyone else had the problem and does this solution work?
Thx!

Re: DIC 4WD Service
alot of us have had this warning on the trail , if after turning off and on it goes away dont sweat it . just mention it to the dealer at your next service and they can check it out . it tends to come on when going down loose stuff for long distances .

Comforting words - Many Thanks
Good to know that my t-case is not imminent in depositing itself in my lap.

Re: DIC 4WD Service
I agree with Neo, I had it twice last year in Moab, and I just turned the engine off, cussed at the vehicle, started back up, cussed some more, and it was ok. The ignition on/off is like a computer reboot, the cussing makes you feel better.

Re: DIC 4WD Service
Any thought to the suggestion that pulling the fuse resets it as well or would that be a an "H2" only thing?
Regardless, thanks for the responses. I'll go run the 4wd switches through before I hit the highway tonight and I'll see what happens.

Re: DIC 4WD Service
Pulling fuses is one way to reboot the system, but in this case, it appears that the ignition on/off routine works and is a lot easier. If it doesn't work, then try the fuse(s). However, you have more than one fuse to pull...

Oh ..Yeah... I'm a believer in the cussing thang. It works...makes you feel alot better.
At least once a week I give the transfer case and Locker a work out in the drive way. I run thru from right to left and back again with the buttons.
It you don't use it ...you lose it. Motors and gears neeed to move in order to stay fresh so there when you call on them. Kinda sorta like your "Johnson"

Re: DIC 4WD Service
OK... I'll put my 2? in here!
Back in April while in MOAB with the Black Sheep Hummer Squadron every morning when I would go to 4lo lock the Service 4wd message would flash on the DIC. When I would try to go back to 4hi it would NOT go... the only way I could get it back into 4hi was to turn off the engine for at least 3-4 minutes, then after restarting there would be no message and I was able to go back to 4hi. This was really a pain in the A$$ especially trying to keep up with Sewie and Neo and after the 3rd day it started to worry me. Sewie and all said it was probably a switch and not mechanical and sure enough... they were RIGHT!
Got the 3 into the GM dealer and the tech said it was a switch... mode switch I think he called it. He even said he got some codes out of it. Of course they don't have parts so I'll have to put up with it until they get parts. By then maybe I can get both the switch and the off-road light wind noise fixed! They are getting me a whole new off-road light bar since they botched up the first fix.
Thanks Sewie and all.... you were right! Just a switch... and still haven't got it or the lights fixed. waitn on parts.

Re: DIC 4WD Service
I got the same code last week. Ended up at the service dept. because light wouldn't go off. The dealer said that they had to replace my fuse box and control head. No idea what that has to do with the 4wd but whatever

Re: DIC 4WD Service
There are numerous components that can cause this warning:
Switch assembly (that's why one of the fixes that seemed to work was to exercise the switches numerous times);
Transfer Case Control Module (either a brain fart or it has Alzheimer's and goes completely wacko)
BCM (usually due to confusing inputs from the switches or TCCM, nothing actually wrong with the BCM)
Encoder motor on the tail of the t/case

Re: DIC 4WD Service
Hi all,
Got into the truck last night after work and it fired without issue. I ran through the 4wd system, down and back, three times.
No issues this morning. I'll keep everyone posted if further issues occur and subsequent remedies.
Thanks again!
