4L60E, 4L65E Delayed Engagement from Park to Drive or Park to Reverse #PI00824 - (02/13/2003)
4L60E, 4L65E Delayed Engagement from Park to Drive or Park to Reverse
.
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Condition/Concern:
The 4L60E/4L65E may experience a condition of a delayed engagement from park to drive or park to reverse.
It is important to test the transmission engagement under the same conditions that the customer experiences the concern.
With the vehicle parked and the transmission fluid temperature at 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Centigrade) or higher, park to reverse or park to drive shift engagement should take no more than one second. Engagement times may increase as the temperature drops below 32°F (0°C).
Recommendation/Instructions:
Inspect the following components:
Forward Clutch piston seals (630) (delay to drive) (picture in SI doc 60500)
Low and reverse clutch piston seals (696) (delay to reverse) (picture in SI doc 5188)
Reverse input clutch piston seals (608) (delay to reverse) (picture in SI doc 181594)
Stator shaft to reverse input drum seals (230) (delay to reverse) (picture in SI doc 7837)
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
