This weekend at El Mirage my CB went on the frits. I could hear everybody but when I went to use the microphone all it did was buzz for everybody else. Nothing on my side, just no reply at all.
On Sunday me and the boy child went to wash the rig. And had found that the antenna wire was cough in the door hinge and was all most cut in two.
Question: if the antenna is shorted out on the body would it still allow me to hear clearly but make the transmission bad ?

That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong......... NOT!!

Yup, You can still recieve, although the quality will be deminished. Any short will have a dramatic effect on the transmit signal. Sometimes you may emit a very low power, high standing wave signal, sometimes garbage. The damaged coax should be replaced with the standard length cable that came with the antenna. If you splice the coax it will change the standing wave and provide a much weaker signal.
