GM/July Sales -4: Chevrolet Sales Rose 4.3%

GM said July vehicle sales on adjusted basis rose 4.3% for the Chevrolet brand rose 1.7% for the GMC brand and fell 40.6% for the Buick brand.

Sales fell 2.4% for the Cadillac brand, while Oldsmobile sales declined 30.3% and Pontiac sales fell 28.4%.

Saturn sales fell 1.6%. The Hummer brand posted a 32.8% increase, while Isuzu sales rose 3.6% and Saab sales rose 12.7%.

The company said the GM Certified Used Vehicle brand sold 34,705 vehicles, up 18% from a year ago.

GM's 5.5% drop in vehicle sales compared with Ford Motor Co.'s (F) 7.1% decline and an 8% decline from DaimlerChrysler AG's (DCX) U.S. Chrysler Group.

GM shares closed at $37.27, down 16 cents.

It is indeed good news to see 33% jump in Hummer sales, but I am not sure how much meat is in the numbers. How can they compare July 03 to July 02 when the supply was extremely limited and most likely that was not a full month in July 02 (which could be adjusted for calculation).
