I painted mine about a year and a half ago. Sanded it up, used primer, and 'Hammered' texture paint. I used paint because of $$ plus I wanted it to match my roof rack & bike rack colors (which are painted as well).
I'd say I should have re-painted it maybe 6 months ago. Lots of little chips in the paint, and with the chrome they really shine through. Obviously not enough to make me repaint it yet, but if you are picky, go with Line-X it will last a lot longer.

I bought an extra used grille, took it to a local shop and they preped and painted it color matched. Paid a couple hundred for it, but it looks great and no chips or issues in over a year now.

It will NOT melt the rigid plastic parts like the grill, etc.

I used dupli-color bed liner and it is holding up great after two months of winter driving. No chips so far. Just prepped it with a scuff pad, washed it, dried and painted.

Re: paint the chrome.. ??
Used regular rust-oleum spray on the chrome like on plastic GM product. Works great except the nos els clogs even when turning upside down and clearing like the directions explain...
Must be good for their product sales

You can check out this post for my newly painted H2 grille...
http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=33144
Grille off ebay $98 delivered, $15 worth of paint and about 3 hrs total time, prep, prime and two coats. Not including time between coats
Like I posted in the above link, I used one of those spray can holders with the pistol grip and man does that make using a spray can awesome, better control and easier on the hands/fingers too...just a tip if you are gonna give it a whirl.
