Default h3 axle/steering capabilities with 35s?

i know a bunch of people are running 35s on stock axles and suspension but i was curious how many people have broken the axles or steering with 35s? the front end is what worries me the most, steering looks week and so does the axle

thanks,
spencer

No problems so far and I've run the Rubicon twice and Moab with the 35's. I have gone through two front diffs but the first one was still with the stock tires.

Faulty ring gear. They increased the hardness, but we both broke them again.
Just be careful.

Actually, the second time I chipped the pinion gear. Do a search on here and you'll find plenty of info on the diff issues.

I wonder how much weight they saved by using the aluminum? Also, I'd be going 35" tomorrow if it wouldn't kill the driveability of the H3. Yet another reason for them to put a larger engine in it in '08. It's pure torture having the capability of putting in 35s without a lift, I just can't take the hit on the road. Dang it all, where's my perfect world?

I have a 5-speed and I wouldn't want to try and run 35". The accelleration and mileage would drop. And the clutch life would suffer.
You would probably need 4.88 gears to make up for the 35" tires but then the gears would have to be smaller and therfore weaker.

I hope they make an H3 with a bigger engine and stick shift.

A V8 and 5-speed would rock
They would have to upgrade the trans and front axle to handle a V8 for sure

I think the 4.56 gear is a common upgrade. For more prerunning and desert race situations the steering rack can go away if you really push it, or do something wrong. I would carry a spare rack and tie rod assembly, do the 4.56 gears, and install the bolt on Fox shock upgrade if it were mine. The H3 is pretty tough, the only problem I have seen is the muffler breaks off after a while, I would install a lighter weight muffler.

They come stock with 4:56's. Precision Gear makes a nice thick cut 4:56 for a 7.25 IFS.

I've not seen a 4:88 for an AAM 725 IFS. They make them in 8-8.25.

I've got a set of BFG MT K/Ms on a FedEx truck that should be here today..

I'd been wondering what the stock gears are.. Going from 32's to 35's to keep the gearing the same you'd need 4.99's in a perfect world.. Do they make those..

Rob

no, 5:29's would be the next size up from 4:88's. Problem is, the front diff is 7.25". 4:56 is the largest you can get.

You would have to get a larger front diff, and for now there is nothing available.

I run the KM's, 285 75 r16.

It will feel sluggish at first. You will get used to it.

Honestly, I've said this before. When I want to fast, I get into my '05 GT.
