Amstar Products Available (finally)
We just got some info on some of the amstar products that are available through the dealership yesterday. We checked the part # with Amgeneral and it says "In Stock". I ordered some rear axle skid plates.
Part # 2868-9390-01 (in amgeneral system) retail for $210.00

Thanks for the news. How long to you recieve them? I have a new plate (to replace a bent one) to put on but I have been waiting for the skids to come out first. They should be easy to install. Put a floor jack under the spring to keep it compressed while you take off the bolts and put the skid plate on. Just re-tourqe them good!
I guess I will be going by my dealer today to see if I can place an order for the U-bolt skids. They must be gold plated for that price though!

Re: Amstar Products Available (finally)
I did a quick search for Shock/Axel skid plates which quickly translated into U-Bolt skid plates. There are LOTS of this sort of thing out there... Unfortunately none for the H3. But here's the kicker...
None of the ones I found online was priced above $75 bucks for the pair.
Like we all suspected, Amstar is trying to take us for a ride. Not cool. I will say that the price of this item at Cestwicks dealership is better than the price I got from my dealership but still, this is highway robbery.

Re: Amstar Products Available (finally)
I called my dealer and the part number didn't come up on his system??
He is going to call AMGeneral/Amstar and let me know.
Yeah $210 for a cut and stamped piece of metal with bolt holes seem expensive.
Prices go up....
20 years ago I bought a set from CONFER for a Jeep and I think they were about $50 /pair

Were there sighting of any other products? Last time I was at the dealer they had no idea about AMStar products and their availability. I am afraid they are a little slow on the uptake. Any other part numbers would save me a lot of the time with parts department. I am especially interested in the rear cargo drawers. Thanks!

Re: Amstar Products Available (finally)
My dealer just called back and they do have the part number for the skids.
I will go there at lunch and order them. I'll see what else they have from AMSTAR.
The dealer should have cataloges and a display for the H3 goodies
I would like to see the rear drawer set up too.
I just took out the back seat and made a flat platform for sleeping on my next long trip.

Re: Amstar Products Available (finally)
could you get us the rest of the part #'s for all the products for the H3 or the place where the part #'s are listed. Would like to get the front bumber and the locking fuel door to star with and maybe so other $hit later down the road.

Re: Amstar Products Available (finally)
I think I will have some of these items custom fabricated, it will probably cost alot less $! Amstar is trying to take us all for a ride!

Re: Amstar Products Available (finally)
Thanks for the info Hal! It is pretty frustrating to have a company say they will release their products in summer of 06 and then drag it out into the next year.
The more I have to wait for these items, the less I want them! And they will all be overpriced for what they are!

remember this: http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...t=cool+company
Sour grapes! c'mon you were drooling over this stuff 7 months ago, plus we've had all this time to save up the cash. Overpriced, yes but I think the quality will be there, we are talking AM General - H1 quality, which should be better quality than most of the GM parts that the H3 is built with.
No one else is making this stuff! if they were there would be no discussion about fabricating parts. Show me who else is making real usefull non-chrome off road H3 equipment like AMstar?
I'll continue to wait for whatever company or who ever makes the best mods for off roading my H3. If I wanted anything less I would have never bought a Hummer in the first place.

Yes, alot us were interested in these products when they first came out. Of course, no prices were listed then.

So because Amstar is the only one making this stuff we should be paying 2-3 times what the stuff is worth. That's just stupid.
The problem is there just isn't enough of a perceived market for this stuff so most shops aren't going to put there own money into developing the products. And GM isn't going to help them out. So it's up to us owners to approach them and let them use our trucks to build this stuff.

You could be waiting awhile. Amstar's stuff is not the best and it will be the most expensive.

That's why we are having a discussion here, to see where we can find and critique the best off road equipment. I'm not worried about price so much, I just want the best built stuff for when I get way off road back in the boonies. So show me the best. I'm open to all. But I don't live anywhere near fabricators of custom stuff like DOI in Indiana. So I'm still waiting. Hell they got more off road crap out for the FJ already, that pisses me off, but then I wouldn't trade my Hummer for five FJ's.

here's what AMgeneral has to say:
One other comment I might make regarding your e-mail and comments from
your dealer's parts manager. If Proctor's or any other HUMMER Dealer is hesitant about buying or
doing business with us, who do they think designed and built and still builds
the "Best Off Road Vehicle" in the world? Who stands behind their products as
good as GM and better than most other manufacturers? Many of our owner's say
that they have never been treated as fairly with any other product. Why do you
suppose that GM paid us Millions of Dollars for the Name, Marketing Rights and
Distribution rights of the civilian product? Lets just hope the product
offerings keep coming. As you can tell I'm very passionate about AMG/HUMMER/H1
and any other offerings with the HUMMER brand name.
AM General, AMSTAR included, we are "Off Road". Other companies are "Wanna
Be's" in Off Roading. We will always stand behind and support our products.
Your welcome to pass this information on to your H3 discussion group. Our delay
on some items is unfortunate but we will not offer the product unless it is
right and does the job better than or equal to the OEM.
Please keep in touch.
Alec Cumming, Manager
H1 National Operations
AM General, LLC
