Default So dissapointed- Headders/ Borla exhaust

I had my Borla exhaust and Gibson headders installed yesterday. The sound is hardly any different than stock. I am so pissed....

It's an H2, doesn't need a loud exhaust anyway

Just think how happy your engine is getting rid of spend gases anyway!!

Honestly, I have not noticed any performance gains. I'm running 37 inch tires, so it's a tad slower..

24 hours later and I am still upset at the crap sound. I have borlas on my Porsche and I have heard them on lots of vetts, all of which sound great. There is a video on YouTube of the borlas on an H2, and the sound is not even close.... Very disappointed...

I totally know exactly what you're experiencing. It wasn't w/Borla but w/Corsa Sport on my first H2.
I was watching youtube Corsa's video and it made it sound like Corsa Sport sounded very aggressive.
After the install, I was very disappointed with the sound.

Lived with it until I traded the H2 in.

Now after getting another H2, I went with Billy Boat exhaust....ABSOLUTELY 100% satisfied and pleased w/the exhaust. Very aggressive sound w/no drone.

I just wrote to Borla asking if they had a different muffler that I could swap in. The sound is just not there....

Has anyone gutted a borla exhaust before with success???

Personally (and no offense intended to anyone),
Mufflers are a joke.
People spending all kinds of money for sound and bling.
It is funny to listen how people spend gobs of money for mufflers.
I read it every day in the forums regarding to my M3 and my Vette, how they spend 1200 dollars for a "exhaust system".

The purpose for a muffler is to muffle the sound. Thats it.
If you want an aggressive sound and performance, then open up that exhaust.

Its amazing how many open up there exhaust and are suddenly in love with their machines sound.
You want performance.... put in a set of long tube headers and a H or X pipe

In my humble opinion (though I havent tried it yet), I think that our rigs would sound awesome with just a set of long glass packs. $120 dollars worth of sound dampening and I am sure it will provide a great sound.... plus you get to get countless 100s of dollars in your bank account for the next mod.

Anyways, thats my two cents.

In regards to this post, I am sorry that the Borlas werent what you expected. Hopefully you will be able to get your situation fixed
Please remember that unless you hear it live, you cant expect similar results.
Everyone in the M3 forum is buzzed about a guy who made his own headers and exhaust, and no one can duplicate the sound. Well thats probably because 1) the sound is recorded through a device that kinda changed it frequencies, and 2) then it was played on a device that has certain speakers setup (I mean come on, I play anything through the subwoofer/speaker setup I have and it would sound great, and I am sure others are in the same boat)

I also have the Corsa Sport. Installed it 4 months ago after watching that same video on Youtube. After installing, took it for a run down the street and noticed a slightly more aggressive sound. After a couple of hours of driving with the new set-up, I got used to the sound and hardly noticed a difference from that of the stock muffler. I think at idle it is supposed to be "oem" like(low rumble), and it takes life at 2000rpms. Just drive through a tunnel and floor it and you'll hear what I'm talking about. I think I'll go with Billy Boat next time.

Well no reply yet from my email to borla. I will write again on Monday.

On my 930 the sound from the borlas is on of the best I have ever heard.
On the multiple corvettes I heard, they are great as well.
On my Hummer, sound just sucks....

Well Borla retuned my e-mail. They are going to send me a new mufler to try. They related there should be a considerable sound difference.

Worst case, if it is the same, I can probally open one up and try a little surgery................

I have the Dynatech long-tube headers and high-flow cats, paired with the Magnaflow exhaust. BIG difference in sound and performance.

I made the mistake of dropping $800 on a Magnaflow system for my brand new 300C back in late '05, man I was so disappointed it wasn't funny.
Yeah, it made a slightly, and I mean slightly louder rumble than stock, but went right back to stock sound when I revved it up or ran it down the street.
Yeah, $800 bucks down the drain. And I only installed it for sound, I know better than to expect any noticeable difference with exhaust only.
I have done the glass pack route, installed one on my H3 after dumping the muffler and resonator--boy it sounded kinda cool, but droned driving thru the mountains and also pulling a trailer.
I've been seriously contemplating the OP's exact exhaust set-up, thanks for saving me over a grand for disappointment.
