No choice. I'm on my 4th or 5th GM car with that stupid system. MAKE SURE YOU BRING BOTH KEYS WHEN YOU GO. They totally reprogram the system when you have it done.

Thanks a bunch! Mine just decided to stop working when I was out with the kids. What a pain that was.

Printed out the instructions and they worked like a charm.

Thanks again. This is why I bought this vehicle. There was no real forum for the BMW that could provide this kind of assistance.

Anybody knows if any copied H2 ignition key will unlock the door and start the engine?
Or does the original key has a chip built in like many other "post-modern" car, e.g. my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Yes,

The dealer misplaced my keys during service and
had to make one. The key doesn't look any different than any other key and works in the door and ignition.

Buddy, thanks for reply.
But is it "yes", any copied key will work or
"yes", there is a security chip in the original (and spare) key in order to work? JCJ

JCJ,

The one the dealer made me has NO security chip and works on the door and ignition.
