Ticking like a Time Bomb (Engine Noise)

At engine start-up after sitting for 12 hours my 2005 HUMMER with 62k miles on it makes a ticking sound( Sounds like it's low on oil ). During my last oil change at Jiffy Lube they inspected it for leaks and found no signs of a leak. It appears that the sound is coming from the engine compartment and not underneath the truck. After it warms up awhile the sound goes away in about 10 min., I tried Lucas Oil treatment and that seems to work until my information on oil reads 65%. Should I switch to a heavier oil? Could it be something other than the oil? Oil pump?

That ticking sound might be one of your lifters. When you first start it up, one of them isnt getting the oil up into it as quickly as the others causing that ticking sound. Thicker oil just means it will take longer to get the oil where it needs to be. I'd take it in and have it looked at........cause if it is the engine, and it gets worse, you could lose a cylinder.

sure it is not a broken exhuast manifold bolt?

very very common problem for the H2.
symptoms include loud-ish ticking sounds at idle, and driving
easy to spot...

open the hood and look at the bolts that hold the exhaust manifold to the heads.. typically it is the drivers side very last bolt to the rear that breaks first..2nd to last one to common as well.

Well I'LL BE DAMNED.!!!!!! Drivers side exhaust manifold bolt is broken, just like you said "last bolt to the rear". Any recommendations for a repairshop? I'm still trying to find one that is local. The local GM dealership said that they don't work on HUMMER's.

they are full of shi!t if they wont work on it.

take a look at the bolt..if your handy enough, you can take the header off and use vicegrips and remove.

another trick is if you have a welder.. tack weld a nut to the bolt, and try to remove it that way, just becareful of what your welding.

this should be a somewhat easy task for any shop really.. its just time consuming because they most likely have to remove the header and possibly disconnect the exhaust to it.

i think when i had mine done.. it was $200ish for 2 bolts, but it was warrantied

personally, if this happened to my H2 again, i would order some good quality bolts, and do it myself.
